Thursday QOTD
Good morning lovelies! I was so tired from unpacking last night that I passed out as soon as I hit the bed. Hope everyone had a great sleep as well!
Today's question is....
How far do you think is reasonable for a parent to go in raising their child?
This question came to my mind because I read Amy Chua's "The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" book recently. The WSJ article that introduced the book to the public created some debate in terms of whether Amy Chua was too extreme in her parenting. Some examples the article cited were Chua making her kids practice their instruments while on vacation, not allowing sleepovers, etc. The article's title though is inappropriate because Chua wasn't out to prove that one system of parenting was better than another; her book was really more a memoir. Here's the link to the original article if you haven't seen it: LINK
My answer is I would push our kid enough for him/her to make an educated decision on their own whether or not they like something. I think if s/he has no apparent talent in anything, trying to force them to do anything isn't worthwhile. The key is that s/he can discover for themselves what makes them happy!

Re: Thursday QOTD
I think when it comes to raising children that each parent should do whatever they think is best for their child. As long as the child is not being harmed, I don't really have an opinion.
As far as me, I think I would be strict when it comes to certain things (respect, talking back, etc), but very non-chalant when it comes to others. With the example that you mentioned, I agree with you, if my kid wants to try out a new sport, dance whatever- then let them. If they don't like it, then I would not force it on them. Would I introduce them to new things- of course! They are children and might not know if they like it or not until they try it.
