"Threaten Miscarriage"

Hello ladies,

Just wanted to share with you what a scary weekend it was for me and SO.

Warning, the following may be TMI.

I am 6 weeks 4 days pregnant. On Sunday I bled some bright red blood - a little more than spotting and a little heavy. What really worried me the most was there were some clots.

I called my doctor (emergency line) unfortunately they never called me back. So we headed to the ER where they did blood work, urine tests and a ultrasound. After seeing so much blood I was convinced that I was miscarrying. After what seems like waiting forever, they finally told me they baby is still there. (thank god). What they called it was a "threaten miscarriage".

They saw the sac and fetal pole which was a good sign. They said the heartbeat was a 89.

I followed up with my regular OB on Monday (yesterday). Had the same thing done, ultrasound, etc... the baby heartbeat was 92. The dr said it's still early, I'm praying that it is.

I'm still spotting.....Chat Icon

I have another appointment next week, so keeping my fingers crossed my little bean will be ok. Whew for now but still not out of the woods.

Does anyone have any similar experiences and went on to have healthy babies?

Re: "Threaten Miscarriage"

It happened to me between 6 and 7 weeks I woke up to a large amount of bright red blood..definitely thought it was over but got dressed and just drove to my doctor..baby was still there doing fine..doc could see no clear cause of the bleeding and it stopped after a few hours but i spotted brown for a few days..I know it is hard but try to take it easy and think positive..Chat Icon Chat Icon

This didn't happen to me but I wanted to say that I'm sorry you are going through this and you and baby are in my prayers!!!

Just curious, did you mention to the doctor that you called the service and no one called you back? Just to make sure that throughout the pregnancy that doesn't happen again!

Re: "Threaten Miscarriage"

I had the same thing, called an SCH at 8 weeks. I got out of my car and when I stood up I gushed bright red blood all over. I definitely thought I was miscarrying. We went to the ER and the babies were fine..very very scary though. I am now 34 weeks. Just try to take it easy and not overdo it...and shame on your doctor's office for not getting back to you!!!!

ETA: I spotted on and off for about a month which I was told was normal. Mostly it was brown but some days there was red blood. I wore a pad for the whole time and I still do now (though now moreso for lack of bladder control lol).

I had a threatened miscarriage at 17 weeks. We were in Buy Buy Baby and I felt like I had gotten my period and sure enough I was bleeding. Went to the ER, baby was fine, they couldn't explain the bleeding and considered it a threatened miscarriage. My pregnancy was fine after that and I went on to have a healthy baby boy who is now a rambunctious 20 month old. I hope everything is ok!

This happened to me around 9w with my DS. I had had an earlier mc so I thought that was what was happening. I went to the ER and they did an exam and a sonogram. The bleeding stopped and I went on to have a pretty normal and healthy pregnancy. DS was born after 38w and is a healthy and happy 2 year old :)

Re: "Threaten Miscarriage"

I bled off an on from 6 weeks -12 weeks and had a healthy baby boy. Anytime there is spotting it's called a " threatened miscarriage". I think they should rename it because it sounds so scary when actually spotting early on is very common . Sending good thoughts I know how scary it is Chat Icon

I'm happy to hear it all turned out well for you both. See, I had a MC before too, that's why it freaked me out so much. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm so happy it all ended well for you. It was such a scary experience. I'm sure you can't wait to your LO.

I forgot to address the situation with them yesterday because my mind was occupied but I plan on addressing it with them on my next visit. Chat Icon

I'm 7w 5d and currently going through the same thing, have been brown spotting for like 3 weeks but today a significant amount of red blood came, I had an internal sono today but my dr didn't seem to think one had to do w the other. So I'm off my feet seeing if it continues, keeping my fingers crossed for us both for sure!!!! You're not alone, this is scary stuff

Re: "Threaten Miscarriage"

I'm so glad I found this thread... i've been having spotting off and on since last Wednesday (I'm 6 weeks 5 days today). It had slowed down to almost not there - but of course on Saturday & Sunday when I was more active, it was heavier... Still no cramping (unless you count the fabulous constipation I keep getting). I've been waiting on the results from my blood work from last week and I've already called my dr's office twice today waiting. This thread has really calmed me down off the ledge (I'm an anxious person to begin with).

The blood work hasn't come back from last week??? What kind of testing did they do?
