Thoughts on sonos

Wondering what info/research/opinions etc everyone has on having multiple/frequent sonograms.

Since I am under the care of an RE I have my 4th sono tomorrow at 8 weeks. Then I will be moved to a high risk doctor and anticipate more sonos with him than with a normal pregnancy. I see a lot of conflicting info online and I am torn between the risk of this LO'ssafety and the reward of seeing the sono.

Thoughts on sonos

I have had a bunch of sonos, and am now starting weekly since I have GD. I spoke with my midwife and there was no information that she presented to me that worried me in the least - exposure is very minimal and doesn't last long at all. I was not worried.

Re: Thoughts on sonos

i have had sono every other week this entire pregnancy to check my cervical length, and now i get growth sonograms, my doctor said it was perfectly safe, so i trust in that.

Re: Thoughts on sonos

I try not to worry too much about it -- because I'm high risk and bc I was diagnosed with an umbilical cord issue I must have them often. So, it is what it is.

Re: Thoughts on sonos

I had sonos weekly almost this whole pregnancy (for a short time it was every other week). Regardless, I had LOTSSS of sonos.

Everything credible I have read and from what my drs have said, it's perfectly fine! There's a lot worse that people do in their pregnancies than frequent sonos, trust me Chat Icon

eta: I'm sure there will be people who respond to this thread and say they heard its a problem........That's what always happens... So try not to get overwhelmed or upset. They tell you to get these sonos for a reason. As far as I'm concerned, the same people who say they would never get such frequent sonos because it could be a problem either A - don't need it because they're not high risk so it doesn't matter to them anyway and B - Do other risky things in their pregnancies that I wouldn't THINK of doing .. so really, the risks (if any) all balance out in the end for all of us. I think it's always important to educate yourself independently from what your doctor tells you so you can be an active participant in conversations about your care. Doctors are experts in their field but they are still human and make mistakes. Medicine is constantly advancing and doctors are always learning better ways to practice.

You mentioned that you're high risk, so it may really be medically necessary to monitor your pregnancy so carefully. If you're concerned, try to speak with your doctor about any diagnostic tests being done to you and find out the rationale behind them. You can always opt out if you're not comfortable with it.

I am always high risk and was very concerned at first about having so many sonos. (I've had them every 4 weeks plus 2 fetal echocardiogram sonos). There is no proven link between sonos and any health issue. I think it'd be more dangerous for me to NOT have them.

Thanks for the feedback ladies! Just can't help but worry! I mentioned it to the sono tech the other day and her response was that there is no harm in multiple sonos and if there was her children would be cyclops Chat Icon Chat Icon
