Those with Splits
Anyone add on a room - if so where - upstairs, downstairs (bump out)?
We are looking into buying a split and were wondering if way down the road we could add a master suite to the other side (the lower side if that makes sense).
TIA!

My sister in law added a top floor master suite - I believe it cost around $60k. This was a few years ago

Re: Those with Splits
I grew up in a split and most of the homes in the neighborhood are splits. My parents did the full extension on the back on the main floor (cathedral ceilings, skylights, etc... back in the 90's) and it adds so much room. The kitchen now has a big island with stools and it's all open to the living area that was added.
A few houses on the block did the bigger master and extra bedroom on the top floor. I've also seen a lot who take out the garage and make the lower level one huge den and add a bathroom down there.
It just depends on what you want... I love splits!! GL!

Re: Those with Splits
My sister in law also knocked the garage out and made a big family room with a gas fireplace

Re: Those with Splits
We own a split and love it. We opened the whole first floor up so our kitchen, dining room and formal living room is all open and airy. Downstairs the old homeowners had a florida room behind the den that we are making one big room. Eventually we plan on going up and making one big master, but that is in a few years. So many options with a split. Good luck!

Re: Those with Splits
I live in a brick split and in my neighborhood many people have added a master suite above the livingroom portion of the house. It's an expensive renovation but definitely can be done. I have also seen kitchens expanded in my neighborhood out the back of the house.
