Re: Those with red walls.

Kristin, Larry did 2 coats of red primer and 5 coats of regular paint on our dining room and it still could probably use another coat.

It looks great, but what a pain.

Re: Those with red walls.

my advice is to prime first. i know it is an obvious but i was too lazy and painted burgandy over a yellow wall. it took 4 coats but it actually worked out well because when the 2 coats dried i didn't like the color so chose another color and painted another 2 coats.

Re: Those with red walls.

I would definately suggest tinted primer. I did 2 walls in Scotty's room red, used 3 coats, and it really could have used another 1

Yes, you definitely need a good tinted primer and then maybe three coats of paint. A good paint. I only use Benjamin Moore.

Make sure the walls are really prepped well and your color is well mixed, you shouldn't have any blotches.

Re: Those with red walls.

When we did a deep rose color without a dark primer it took about 4 coats, maybe 5. It was scary watching it go on at first b/c it seemed like it would never cover! When it was done it looked great!

don't be nervous w/ the color after the first coat, it will look different w/ the 2nd and 3rd. maybe you should test paint a wall before painting the whole room. reds and maroons are tough colors and don't always look like they do in the can or on the swatch.

Re: Those with red walls.

We had a tinted red primer and it took 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint!! I couldn't believe it, but after the 2nd coat of paint - it just still looked blotchy. Totally worth it though.

Good luck!

We have one red wall but it came that way. My friend just bought a house and said it took 4 coats of red to paint their dining room.

Behr.

Last night we applied the 3rd coat with a very good roller very $$ looks so much BETTER.

My FIL is here and im very greatful that he bought us the stuff but hes cheap and bought cheap stuff. My dad recomended buying a good roller and that did the trick.
