Those with Nannies/PT Nannies

Do you have a formal contract with them? I'm going to be having a nanny 2 days a week she currently works for my neighbors (has for the past 12 years) and they changed her to part-time. Do I have her sign something re: vacation, etc.?

Also - do you pay weekly or bi-weekly?

TIA!

I don't have a contract - I kinda wish I did. We are a bit loose with the time off and are pretty flexible with her - when she needs off we work our schedule around to give her the time. She knows she's off when I'm off and she get the xmas week. All paid.

We pay weekly at her request.

No contract.

We pay her weekly, no holidays/vacations but a high baseline rate. If I get home early, we let her out & she gets paid for full day. This happens a few times a month.

She tells us she's very happy with the set up.

Adding: she works 3 days a week.

No contract. We wrote up an agreement, discussed the terms with her and made adjustments, but never actually finalized or signed anything. I am an attorney and thought we should sign a contract but my boss who has had many nannies over the years recommended that we did not, because she said things will always change and we are better off not having to constantly amend the contract or operating with a contract with different terms than our arrangement. I think what we did worked well for us.

We paid our nanny weekly, with a weekly rate (she worked 3 days most weeks but we had negotiated for 3, 4 and 5 days, plus an overtime rate) and we let her leave early if we got home early. She got paid vacation whenever we were off or took vacation. We expressed a strong preference for her to take her vacations when we take ours (paid) and gave her paid holidays when they fell on her usual workdays and we encouraged her to give notice if she needed to take a day off so we could switch her days that week. We only worked with her for 6 months before moving out of the city so for that time period it worked fine.

Edit: we also paid on the books

Re: Those with Nannies/PT Nannies

we are going through the process now of hiring a nanny- we laid out a contract so all her responsibilities as well as ours were listed and there was no questions. We pay weekly. We will use her for 5 days a week so she will be paid for holidays and vacation weeks (she gets 4)- she is salaried and gets a flat rate as long as the hours stay within 8:15-6pm.

No contract. She gets paid a flat rate since we're usually about +/- 30 minutes or so. All holidays and days off are paid.

Re: Those with Nannies/PT Nannies

I have a nanny 2 days a week. When I hire my Nanny I send them an email with my "policies", it's very informal but it's something in writing. What the pay is, what the overtime is if we are late coming home, what the hours are, etc. I do not pay her for holidays, days we take off, or days she takes off. I give a daily rate, so if we get home early or she needs to leave early she still gets a full days pay. I also give a Christmas bonus.
