those with Car Leases....

1. Have you ever gotten out of yours a few months early? If so how, what were the fees?

2. Is it possible to end your lease and then turn it in & get into another lease of the same car without fees?

I am under the impression that we can either:
a. keep the car until the end and pay the turn-in fees involved.
b. Turn it in early and upgrade to a better leased car and they will absorbe the turn-in fees.

Meanning we have a Jeep Liberty but don't want to turn it in & upgrade for another Cherokee (we already have 1 and don't need too and there are not many car options with Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep)

5 months
My DH is already over in Mileage too! So he is using my car, so we can try to keep it down as much as possible.

Re: those with Car Leases....

I turned mine in with 2 years left - to UPGRADE

I am sure if I wanted to upgrade again- they would let me

but my car had issues- my new one doesn't

the dealership told me I can turn it in early- 4 to 6 months early- as long as I get another one

I paid no fees- and I talked them out of the bank fee on the second one- and it's not like I could go to another dealer-

Re: those with Car Leases....

that's pretty much what they told us.

But we don't want to upgrade because of practicality (we don't need 2 SUVs in NC). Has anyone turned in a lease just to go into the newer version of the car?

I don't think it would hurt to ask- esp b/c you lease is ending so soon

but- make sure you can turn the car in in NC

my sister has to either buy her car or drive it back to NY to turn it in

They said we can turn it in down there. Actually once we move down, the car payment will be a little cheaper because they make the adjustment in the tax.

Since he is already over in mileage by 10,000Chat Icon , we thought to turn it in here or ship it down.

I turned in my lease early to get the newer version of the car...i believe it was 3 months early. I didn't pay any fees.

eta: b/c i was getting another VW they gave me loyalty money which was about 1k and they waived charging me for all the scratches on my car since I wasn't anywhere over my mileage.

DH turned in his Jeep almost 4 months early and didn't go to another Jeep. He did not have to pay the fee because the salesperson waived it for us.

Re: those with Car Leases....

I turned in my Liberty 3 months early and upgraded to the Cherokee.

Since I was getting another jeep, the dealership absorbed my last 3 payments AND my over-mileage (I was about 5,000 miles over my limit). They actually gave me a check for close to $3k so when the final bill came from chase (my lease was through chase) I would have enough to pay the fees... it ended up being only $2k total in fees so I had $1k to keep in my account, guess they calculated wrong! Chat Icon

I plan to do the same thing next year... turn in my cherokee a little earlier for another new Jeep.

ETA: Sorry, read your post wrong the first time... There aren't any chrysler/jeep/dodge cars you are interested in?

Re: those with Car Leases....

yeah, see I have a cherokee (I turned in my liberty for one) And I love it, DH does too, but it does not seem practical to get another SUV when we will be moving to NC in 2 months (winters are not as bad). And the cars that dodge/chrysler have are not really what we'd want.

They offered us the same thing, for the fee, if he turned in the liberty early and rolled over into a cherokee.

Re: those with Car Leases....

We moved to FL and we will still always have one SUV... but if you have one just b/c of the winter weather then you won't need one in NC.

What about the Dodge Caliber... DH is looking into this one for himself.

Yes, you can turn in early without fees if there is a pull-ahead program. It's usually up to 6 months early, as long as you lease another car (doesn't have to be the same car, it can be car or truck). The amount you pay for being over miles can be rolled into your new payments.

DH is a GM dealer, so if you have any more questions, let me know.

yes, we want one for when we travel into the mountains and incase the weather is bad, but 2 I don't think is necessary. The Caliber is not bad looking, we'd have to look more into that, but I don't think Jeep gives as much incentives with their dodge cars.

We are having a hard time making a decision and one that is the most cost effective!!!!

Yup!!!
I traded in my Honda Coupe (loved that car Chat Icon ) for a sedan (baby car Chat Icon ) 4 months early.

Honda actually sent ME a letter telling me to trade it in early if I wanted.
I paid ZERO penalties and now my payments are $15 less than before.

Just be careful, I made the payment on my old Honda to cover August and when I picked up my new Honda at the beginning of August, I had to pay that too. I didn't get reimbursed for the old payment. Chat Icon Let my mistake be your lesson.

Also, other dealerships will buy out your lease too, doesn't have to be the same make....

REALLY!?

We ideally would like to turn in the Jeep now, before we move. It's possible that I might not be working until after the baby, so I won't need a car. When we do decide on another vehical, we want it to be a car, not an SUV.

We want to find a jeep dealership that will let us turn it in 5 months early, and not hit us with tons of fees.

I can't see a dealership absorbing the remaining cost of your lease, especially if you did not lease from them in the first place. More than likely they are taking that money and rolling it somehow into the car you are getting from them.
