Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
What are your reasons that DC is still in there?
DD will be 3 in August and DH thinks that it is time for her to be in a bed. I am hesitant about this because she is the type of kid to get up at night and start rummaging through her drawers and toys at 2 am. She is perfectly fine in her crib, doesn't even try to climb out, so my position is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

my DD is hte exact same age. will be 3 in august. still in crib, never climbs out, has a million and one stuffed animals in there. has no interest in bed. i'm leaving her for now. if i needed the crib for a #2, i would mover her, but I have a portacrib that I use for my 1 yo, so no rush.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
RAISES HAND
I got my "original plan" from my BF. She set up the bed and the crib in her DD's room (her DD is an only child so she didn't need it for another) and over a 9 month period her DD slowly transitioned to the bed.
Welllllllll, that was my plan late last summer and welllll, apparently the beds we bought them????? They consider them very expensive "let's all sit here and read bedtime stories" beds. LOL.
The reason why I didn't push it? As a high school teacher I get up at 4:30 am during the school year, DH often travels and now works in NYC and well, we don't get enough sleep as it is.
Now that it's the summer, we are doing it in the next few weeks. As long as I don't have to teach my College Eco class at 7:25am, I can live w/o sleep

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
dd was three in March and has never tried to get out or even asked for a bed. I was planning to make the switch this week, but for the last week or so its been taking an hour for her to fall asleep, which never happens, so it doesnt seem like the right time yet!

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
here here! i thought i was the ONLY one! but my reasons mirror yours in a way...DD is the type who will most likely be getting out of bed a million times a night etc...plus, she is so happy in her crib, has never climbed out and is just an overall great happy sleeper. i'm not messing with that right now and i figure, who really cares? i mean i promise she won't be in a crib by the time she goes to kindergarten so whats the harm in it for now?

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
I've got a 3 year old in a crib!
My reasons: DD loves her crib, she makes no attempt to climb out, I don't have another little one on the way who needs her crib (wish I did ), and we plan to move DD to another room in the house that needs work first.
My plan: By the end of the summer have her in a bed!

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
I had the same situation of a three year old in a crib. The same reason of her not trying to get out so I didn't feel the need. I actually found it a really easy transition by simply dropping the rail on the crib and leaving it that way for a while and then we finally converted to toddler bed. She turned three in February and we probably switched her in March or April. It was supposed to be for her birthday but she was sick and then BIL was visiting and finally we just did it. She fell out twice in the first week but now she is fine.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
My 3 year old is still in a crib...and I thought I was the only one. We moved in April so I wanted to keep something she was comfirtable with. She loves her crib. has never climbed out; but I'm actually going to order her a big girl bedroom set Thursday. We have a baby on the way in October so I would like to have her settled in a bed by then. I know I am probably going to lose sleep once she gets a bed with her not wanting to sleep in it and getting out of bed....but I think its the best thing right now.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
My 3 yr old is in the crib still. For is Bday we bought him a big boy bed for his bday (twin size). We left his crib in his bedrom also, decided to not pressure him. And he wants alsolutely nithing to do with the bed. So he is still in crib, hopefully by Christmas he will be in his big boy bed. He really loves his crib!!

DS was over 3 1/2 when we transitioned him to a full size bed. He loved his crib and never tried to climb out.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
Jay is still sleeping in his crib and doesn't seem to have an issue with it. He gets in and out just fine.
I was hoping to get the boys bunk beds at the end of the summer but we'll see. We had major sleeping issues with them and I'm just enjoying the easy way they go to sleep now. I just don't know if I wanna rock the boat just yet.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
We moved him bc a friend had a mattress that she was giving us
I had zero issues with him sleeping in a crib, even if he were to stay there past three years old. We moved him a month before his third birthday.
It it ain't broke....

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
DS will be 4 in Sept and we're *just * going to transition him in the next week. I'd keep him in there forever but we're going to need the crib soon. ds #2 will be here in Aug.
He never tried to climb out of the crib and was completely happy in there. I asked the Ped if it was bad for his development in any way and she said absolutely not. The only good reason to transition is because they try to climb out of the crib and could get hurt.

Re: Those with a 3 year old still in a crib
DD is still in hers - we keep toying with the idea of moving her - but honestly- she sleeps well in it, she is NOT trying to climb out despite the fact she is normally a monkey, and I think she would run around the room all the time and never sleep. The BIG reason is that - when we went to disney - she refused to sleep in the day bed and insisted on sleeping in the queen size bed. DH had to sleep with her b.c even WITH bed rails she almost fell out several times b/c she was doing full 360s in her sleep and would wake up in the morning with her head hanging over the foot of the bed. She is a very active sleeper.
