Those who've never given their kids the flu shot?
How old are your kids and have they ever gotten sick/the flu?
I'm curious to know from this thread how many kids that are not vaccined for the flu shot and never had a problem during school years. Now that my older DC is in preschool 5 days a week I'm unsure what to do. All I know is that since September he has already gotten pink eye from school and 5th's disease. I know those kinds of sickness have nothing to do with the flu shot and getting the flu and that anyone can get these kinds of illness...but how often can kids in school can get the actual flu?
I've never gotten the flu shot or flu as so DH so I'm one of those that think they are really not worth getting it. But now that I'm seeing that school is such a germ fest I'm not sure what to do!

I am giving it to ds this year. He didn't get it last year and only got a few little colds. Nothing major. This year he started daycare in Aug, he has been to the ped about 10 different times. With everythung from pink eye to double ear infections. So we are giving it to him hopefully next week. If he was home and NOT in dc he would NOT be getting it.

DD is 20 months and has never been sick other than a a stuffy nose.
No flu shot while I was pregnant, last year or this year.
Dont plan on it in the furture either.

My son got the flu shot at 10 Months, 20 months and will again this year. He has never gotten the flu but the past two years, the flu has gone through the area and he did not get it. It may be a coincidence but he is in daycare so I will continue to do it. He has had no ill effects from it.

Jordan went 9 years with no flu shot and she never had the flu. She was sick alot but never the flu.

My sons haven't gotten it and I won't give it to them.....one has had strep once and an 1 infection and the other has had 1 ear infection.

DD is 16 mos, she's never had the flu vaccine. DH and I have never had it either. She's never been sick aside from congestion one time.

I've never given it to Noah, he is almost 5, has been in either full time daycare or school since he was 1 and he has only gotten sick once a year, maybe twice one year. But he rarely gets ill.

My son is four years old and has gone through four flu seasons and it has worked out that I have given him the flu shot every other season...once during his second flu season at eighteen months of age and again last year during his fourth flu season because he was starting preschool and I was bringing home a new baby.....Well what a mistake!!!!! I have noticed a trend, that the years that he has gotten the flu shot are the worst years of sickness for my little guy last year in particular I thought it would never end....Bronchitis two times, swine flu, incessant runny nose, dx of asthma, fevers, ear infections. We were on an endless stream of antibiotics....I got allergy testing done and found out he was allergic to eggs which are in the flu vaccine. So I sent his immune system into a tailspin and he was relatively healthy the years I did not give it to him. So NEVER again for either of my kids or me.

DS is 2 1/2 and this year is his 3rd year getting the shot. We had to get it since he is in daycare. First year he had tons of colds which lead to ear infections - he eventually got tubes. Last winter, no issue. One mild stomach flu issue. This year he already got the flu and it was very mild - 102/102 degrees. I am pregnant so needed him to get it this year.

DD is 3 & never had the flu & is rarely sick (although this is her first year in school, so we'll see) & DS is 17 months & never had the flu either.

DS had the flu for the first time when he was 4.
DD got the flu from DS when she was 3 
Both of them were in preschool at the time.

I'm wondering this about school too. We don't get the flu shot here either and DS has never had the flu. But, this is his first year in school every day. So far, he hasn't gotten sick from school...but, I am concerned about this....on the fence but, leaning towards no shot.

I am so torn about the flu shot. Neither DH or I have ever had the shot. DD is 8 and has never had it. DS is now 14 months and I have an appt on Tuesday for him to get the shot. DD has an appt the beginning of Nov. I just don't even know if I should bother. DD has never really been THAT sick. Any advice would be great.

never got the flu shot myself or had my DS get it
he won't get it ever and is also on a slow vaccine schedule
he's never been sick once - not even a cold. not sure if it's related to that or pure luck, but works for me!!

DS is 6 and I have never given him a flu shot, he's also never had the flu. Strep, ear infection yes, but no flu. I don't get it either.

2 and 4.5 and never had the flu--no strep or ear infections ever here either. Thankfully they are healthy kids!

Never gave the flu shot and *knock on wood* they neve got the flu.
