Those who have had a growth sono

Sorry if these are silly questions. I haven't had a sono since 16 or 17 weeks. I looked away half of the time b/c I didn't want to accidentally find out what the baby's sex was. The tech found out the sex so quickly that I probably wouldn't have been able to see anything.

I'm having a growth sono at 34 weeks. I'm really excited to see the baby again. The tech has been great and I know she won't show us the sex organs on purpose. I'm just wondering since the baby is so much bigger whether it's obvious what the baby is. We've been waiting for so long and I'm really excited to find out the sex in the delivery room. I have an irrational fear that I'll find out before that.

How long did the growth sono take? Did they look at the organs or just do a quick measurement? If you didn't know the sex, could you see anything at the growth sono?

I had one this past week (26 weeks) .. the babies are so big at this point I couldn't tell what anything was, let alone gender.

ITA.
I had several growth sonos late in my pregnancy. The 20 week sono is the easiest to see detail - as the baby gets bigger, the pictures get fuzzier and it is very hard to tell what you are looking at. I knew I was having a boy, but I couldn't tell from looking at the screen.

I had one at 32 weeks and could barely make anything out except when the doctor pointed things out specifically and even then it was a stretch. I had asked her to reconfirm the sex since we had found out at 18 weeks and hadn't seen him since and she pointed out his male parts - to me they just looked like everything else - could be an arm, leg, head - no clue. Chat Icon Def remind them that you don't want to know, but it definitely wasn't obvious in my case.

Re: Those who have had a growth sono

I've been going for growth sonos every 2 weeks and biophysical profiles 2x a week for the last month and i know the sex of the both babies and not once have i recognized anything on the screen. The last time the tech actually zoomed in on the "twig and berries" as she called it and I still had absolutely no idea what i was looking at until she pointed it all out.

Thanks ladies. Chat Icon I figured the baby might be too big to see anything, but I wasn't sure.

Re: Those who have had a growth sono

I can understand your concerns. I would stress to them you don't want to know...maybe they will zip past the private parts when they scan over them.

I have the opposite, I want to reconfirm the sex. Will they be able to do that for me at my 32 week (not to hog your thread MrsS)?Chat Icon

Re: Those who have had a growth sono

I just went for my 30 week sono and it lasted about 25 minutes. The tech measured the head and looked at the organs. She tried to get a good pic of his face, but he was covering it for the longest time! Then, she told me the weight and length of the baby. She also mentioned how many weeks I am measuring.....about 30 days ahead. HTH!! Chat Icon
