Those that moved to NC
DHs sister and family just moved to Moorseville NC. We are planning on taking a week trip down there in July. (I am secretly going to have interviews lined up b/c he swears he doesn't want to move, but I know he'll love it there! LOL) We are struggling more and more with our bills each month. I already saw several jobs for DH that he'd be making more then what he is here, and I wouldn't HAVE to work. (I can't get a decent job here b/c my credit is destroyed since I was laid off...go figure.) SIL already said that we can live with them as long as possible. They have a 6 bedroom house! So DH and I will have our own room, as will DS...till we find our own place. We'd live there for free...just do work around the house for them, help food shop and all that. We'd be able to get ourselves out of debt, save up for a house, and buy within the next year. So, at least that's my plan! LOL So, now after all that rambling... anyone here live near Moorseville? How are the schools? Specially compared to NY? How hot does the summer really get..? Does it get as humid as LI? Do you love livign where you are? Lastly, when we do move, anyone willing to have a GTG? lol

Re: Those that moved to NC
Mooresville is really nice and I've heard good things about the schools. The commute to Charlotte would have been too long for us so we didn't look there but I have a cousin who lived there and they like it a lot.
It gets hoooot in the summer. We are having a stretch of days in the low 90s right now, mid 90s for most of the summer is the norm.
We really like our life here-we've been here 4 years and have 2 kids-soon a 3rd.

Re: Those that moved to NC
Thanks for the response. I was told by the people in Moorseville that Charlotte is really not that far away...so I have in fact been looking for work for DH there. Is it really that far of a drive? Right now he drives about 45 minutes to work with NO traffic... so I'm sure he can handle a commute like that if we move... do you think it's further then that?
What area do you live in? I am so tempted to look into other areas, but I don't know where to start! I know nothing about that state in general! LOL. I know my brother moved there a few years back to be with his girl...but he now tells me it was the 'poor' part... Fayetville. All the pictures I see of Moorseville is just like LI... but cheaper! There's a 5 bedroom with finished bedroom...brand stinkin new... granite counters...new appliances... for only 125K!! Really? We could own and have it paid off in no time then... comparing to NY prices at least! LOL. We were looking at a ranch here on LI before I lost my job and it was over 300k! And it was only 2 bedrooms, and needed a TON of work!
I just think overall it'll be a good move for us. Our ideal goal was to buy a home here... live in it for a few years, and then sell it to be able to buy a house all cash down there. But.... that obviously didn't go as planned. HA
I know when I visit there I'll be having them drive me around like crazy! I want to get the FULL feel of it all before I get super serious about moving... (well, I can move no problem...but it's making sure DH will want to as well.)
Sorry for the rambeling post!... again! One other stupid question...how hard is it to get a NC license? I heard you have to take another road test? Is that ture?

My brother and SIL just moved to Weddington, they love it and my nephew loves the school as does my SIL.
They did not have to take road test just transferred their licenses.

Re: Those that moved to NC
We moved from Matthew,NC to Long Island. My kids were in Private and Magnet School.Mooreville is North Charlotte. We live in East Charlotte. There are a lot of New Yorker. A lot of them live Ballatyne,Indian Trail,Weddington, and South Park. For the public school, they really cut back. School are over crowed. The better schools is South Charlotte. I suggest if you move there, I would rent for awhile and get a feel for it.We had lived in the South Park area, then to Matthews. Everything is cheaper there. Let me know if you need more information.

Re: Those that moved to NC
Charlotte is not that far from Moorseville, but there is really only one highway to get you there and back and it gets jammed during rush hour.
Rush hour is nothing like NY/LI so bad is relative. For us, we wanted less than 30 minutes so we live in Harrisburg. Small town, in the sticks almost. Cabarrus county (Charlotte is Mecklenberg).
I don't know about 5 bed room houses for $125K. I would be worried about where that is, even in Moorseville. Housing is much more reasonable but that seems too good to be true-but if you are living with your family you will have time to scope things out.
Huntersville, Indian Trail, Waxhaw, Ballentyne all very nice, but would push our limit on a 30 minute commute.
