Yes they existed before. No of course its not new to be hateful. And I agree we shouldnt give them OR Trump attention they are seeking.
But there is a significant rise in these groups speaking out since the election. And Trumps name is associated with most of the crimes and talks like this. They think because he is PEOTUS and associates with people like Bannon that they can come out even more now
No one said it represents all republicans. However, IMO when you turn a blind eye like you are - you are saying its ok and defending them.

Of course they've been around. But now they're more comfortable coming out from the shadows and praising trump. Therefore, yes I do think blaming trump isn't far fetched. I mean obama has been blamed for far less.
And yet he continues to stay quiet. If nazis were praising me, I'd be shouting from the rooftops that I do not approve. But then again I'm not a nazi sympathizer.

I could cry.
It's one thing to have voted for him. It's another thing to turn a blind eye now and put your head in the sand.
This is shameful and beyond words. I pray each day that he and/or his supporters will say something. Speak out. Take some ownership of what's happening and quell it.
But they don't want to.

I don't care if these people support Trump or not. Without context, you would think this was a speech given in the 1930s in Nazi Germany. The terrifying part is that it was a speech that occurred in our nation's capital last week. I don't care who they support. This is just not ok.

I don't see the media as highlighting this- they are reporting it, as they should. If anything, they are being inept as usual by not pointing out Trump's utter lack of concern (other than saying 'stop it' which was real effective!).
And it's not Obama's place to speak out. Though if he did, I bet you'd see a tweet from Trump- "Obama condemning racist acts done in my name! Unfair!"
The media also needs to stop calling this people the 'alt right' and calling them what they are- white supremacists. Neo-Nazis.

The restaurant acted much more "presidential" than Trump. They didn't realize what group was reserving their restaurant, and as soon as they heard that neo-nazi white supremacists were using their facility, they did everything they could to distance themselves from them, even though they weren't supporting them in the first place.
That's how I would expect ANYONE to react when they find out they are even marginally associated with white supremacists.
