This bugs me. Does this happen in every class?

My dd is in daycare. Her teacher tries to come up with a learning activity every couple of months. This month was show and tell. It is brown day. So the teacher asked and reminded every parent via an email, an alert and a big sign on the door to have your child wear something brown and/or bring in a brown toy. 3 out of 10 participated again. It is always my dd and 2 other kids. Whether it be a class party, show and tell, pajama day, most kids aren't participating, the parents just don't seem to care.

Growing up I was always super excited about days like this, maybe I'm just a dork but my mom would always make sure she followed the teachers request.

Last month at the green party one mom said laughing "I always forget that's why I stopped signing up for stuff."

Bugs the hell out of me, today dd walked in with her brown bear and all the kids ran over to see the bear and one little boy asked why he couldn't bring his toy with him to school. The teacher just said mommy forgot.

Same thing in my DDs class. I find it so disappointing that parents dont care! My DD was the only one who had on a crazy shirt for crazy shirt day and many times the only one for pajama day. Some parents are lazy, and some su*ck. I think it sets a bad influence on kids bc its nice to join in on fun, safe things! I refuse to stop taking part though just bc other parents don't.

It happens. Parents have lots to do on top of jobs and the million other things we have going on. I try to remember and participate but I forget.

It would never bother me if other parents forget or don't participate.

And it's not that parents don't care. It just might not be a priority

But every time? I completely understand not participating all of the time but come on part of learning is participating.

I do know that there are kids in Gavin's class that was different cultural backgrounds. It could be that. Also dressing in a color and bringing in a toy is not part of learning to all people. Everyone has different priorities.

When I worked as an assistant, the teacher and I always made sure we had extra things for the kids to pick from if a parent forgot or didn't participate (we had a few that seemed they couldn't be bothered)

Our daycare did that too.

I have to admit I forgot a lot with DS 1- he wasn't really into it and really didn't care about it in the beginning so I lost interest and momentum in helping him pick something. I think the teachers weren't really into it either...

DS 2 is really into it so I participate. He is almost 4 and he comes up with the ideas of what he wants to bring for each letter (they do it by alphabet) based on what they discuss in class.

DS 2 is also into theme days where DS 1 only participated in theme days that matched what he wanted to wear (blue or character lol).

I was going to say this too. Growing up we had quite a few of JW and they didn't participate in things

I am MUCH better now, but when I was first a single parent A LOT of stuff flew under my radar

People at my daycare are pretty good at participating with events. I also remember that all these parents are working so keeping up with themes at daycare might not be their top priority.

My kids have daily activities. We get a calendar each month. It's only about once a week, though, that i have to dress them in a certain color, and we usually get a note on the daily then, too. I'm pretty good at remembering, but do forget once in a while. I admit, I forgot often last year. We have a hectic house and with 2 kids, I'm just happy they get to day care and I can get to work!

Parents are just so busy , rushed, and have multiple kids in different schools. these things are low on the priority list for many.

I agree! I could see myself forgetting or not having the laundry done so choosing a specific color is not an option. Laundry during the week may not be possible for some moms who need to go to bed, lol! It wouldn't bother me if the other moms forgot too.

I try my hardest
But some shit I don't have
Yellow shirt day ?? Nope. We don't own one
Crazy sock day?? We don't have any!
There was a fifties day. I don't even own a basic white T for my kids. It's all graphic t shirts and stuff.

It's really a pain.

This exactly...
We don't have brown clothes. Esp for girls!
No brown toys either (in 3 bags of stuffed animals)
Only thing we have is a brown paper bag ;)
Crazy socks? I don't have crazy socks myself.
We had quarterback & queen day. We don't have football jerseys! I can't dress my son as a queen & am not going out to buy a jersey!
At preschool level, my kids don't get it!
Going to work, this stuff is annoying.

Some stuff DD participates in. For example this past Friday they were learning about penguins so it was dress in black and white day. Easy enough. PJ day--love it! But for things like Football Jersey's, crazy hats, etcetera it gets skipped.

It's annoying and as the kids get older it continues in the elementary. The school sponsered one for Kindness Week and one of the days was dress like your going to the beach. It was January!!! Everyone was so made because we had to fight with our kids not to wear bathingsuits!! The next day was Hippie Day and who the heck has hippie clothes for their kids. So annoying and most did not participate. The PTA also does a "spirit week" but we make it alot easier - Wear school colors (which almost everyone has), inside out day (just put your clothes on inside out), and PJ day. All the kids love PJ day. For Kindergarten they do have days like bring your bear to story time but the PTA has a stock pile of bears so if a kid doesn't have one, they can adopt one for the day.

Re: This bugs me. Does this happen in every class?

Hah I try to remember these things and I think it's fun (at least dd is into it). Mostly I worry that she would feel left out if I forgot so I try my best to remember. She was 1 of 3 to wear a dress on fancy clothes day and I try to put something for show and tell etc. for taco day I brought the tortillas, cheese and guac since a lot of parents didn't sign up. I didn't participate for sports jersey day tho- didn't want to spend the money and our family is not into sports.

I wish more parents were into it but I get why they are not too.

My boys do not want to participate in things where they wear funny stuff. I think it's bc they're still young where they are funny about clothes and also afraid to be laughed at. I have trouble getting them in slacks and a collar let alone a crazy hat or tie dye day. I notice almost zero participation with this stuff amongst the boys. Of course I do show and tell etc . But the clothes days, not really unless it's something like "wear red".
