THINKING ABOUT STARTING...
Since going through IF for approx. 5 years I have learned that having a great support system helps make the process easier, knowing you are not alone is a great comfort and listening to others stories can help you in your journey.
A SUPPORT GROUP...I was thinking about having a "Girls Night Out" about once a month at my home. It would be for a couple hours, all are welcome and everyone can bring something (appitizer, desert, drink, whatever). We can meet eachother, share stories, laugh, cry and just support eachother though this journey.
Is this something you would be interested in attending? I was going to become a RESOLVE PEER LEADER but unfortunately they do not want meetings to be held in "a private home" only in a Public place. I dont know about you but on the off chance someone I know (and not well enough to know my personal business) walks into a restaurnat where Im discussing my fertility issues that would just be strange to me.
Any feed back would be appreciated. I feel like "PAYING IT FORWARD" is important and this is a great way to do that

i think the Resolve thing is great. honestly i never thought twice about being in a public place and randomly meeting someone i know. we've done GTGs with this group both at peoples homes and at restaurants. i do think homes work better because its quieter and you can really sit and talk to people, restaurants tend to be loud and busy and you talk primarily to whoever you sit next to. however i think having an organizationally branded support is great too - so either way it could work.

I understand the current GTG's are not "formal" or "consistant" thats why I was offering my home in order to have one that was...RESOLVE calls the host a "peer leader" ---which Im not looking for a title...just offering my home for girls to meet up and talk...thanks for your well wishes...

i think it is a great idea..i think all the info we could get would be awesome
i know if it was not for certain posters who r so knowledgeable i would have been lost going through our issues and yrs of IF
the only suggestion i would suggest is whoever is the leader would try to make sure all or most issues r covered
for example..if i was leader(which i would not want to be lol i have no useful knowledge lol) and someone asked me about endo...i do not know much about that but if someone asked me about protein s deficiency and blood clots and dvt's i could write a book lol
i just mean i would hate for someone to come and looking for answers and no one had any...does that make sense?
but most important and overall the best thing is being with people who understand..who can relate bc i hate to say it but u really have no idea until u try
i will never ever forget a post a few months ago where someone was having issues with her sil and not celebrating mother's day etc...people who had gone through IF explained she may be having a hard time and it was hard to go out to that other shower etc...the op understood
another poster commented i do not get it,is it really THAT bad that u cannot go anywhere and r THAT sad....i was dumbfounded...almost like people think we were faking..like it was not that bad..it made me so sad
sorry i wrote a novel...anyways good luck! i think it is a great idea!

GREAT SUGGESTIONS!!! You are absolutely right about topics...I guess once I have an
RSVP each girl can add their "specialty" :) and that way we can have an idea of things to cover!!! I love that idea... Thanks for suggesting!!!!!
Im going to try it and see how it works out. Besides having a "girls night" once a month is a nice escape and I have been telling DH Ive been wanting to do this for years, so now that I have the room, Im going to...
If it works and girls come, GREAT! I have several friends already that are going through the process---reading some of the girls posts on here have certainly helped me pass on vaild information that have helped them in their cycles. THe only drawback is if they have other questions relating to something that I dont know the answers too and then cant find who made the post (im a newbie on LIF) that sucks.

Hi Jules!
You know I started the process with RESOLVE too. Like you, I didn't like some of the restrictions they placed on meeting location, peer leader, etc. I do understand that through RESOLVE and because it's a National Organization that they want more of a "clinical" support group where it's formated to talk about everything from soup to nuts or from clomid to egg retrievals! It's more "formal" because it has to be structured and in a way made record of.
So, I happen to like the way the GTG's are. There's no pressure for everyone to speak. (Which obviously happens because of individual personalities.) Some ladies come for the emotional support and don't feel like talking but are just happy being there and other ladies like me are very open with my 3 1/2 years of experience. I find that we do talk about everything and it's very casual. I think its a great idea to always have something because unfortunately there are always new ladies joining us.

I think it's a great idea. I will never forget the day when the woman I work for, Im a nanny who watches 3 kids, told me about lifamilies.com. She knew from the beginning what I was going through and suggested this board. It changed my life. We all have a story and though the way we get pregnant is different in the end we all have struggled to have a baby. I truly believe because of this board and meeting such amazing people I have my son. It is a place to vent, to ask questions and to not feel alone.
I wish that none of us had to go through this but in the end with the support of each other I truly believe our dreams of having a baby will come true for all of us. So I think it is a great idea. Count me in, if my story and my struggle can give hope to others I would love to be there.

I met some wonderful women at GTG's..so this may be just what some need to help them get through such a hard time. I always think its helps to have those around you that really 'get' what you are going through

I think she was offering to be the host since we don't have one every consecutive month but really only whenever someone wants to volunteer. It's a good idea so those that want, volunteer, and if no volunteers its at Julies new house!

I like the idea of a support group. It's different than a typical GTG. I was always looking for one and never found any IRL. I would be interested. And having had a long battle myself would like to be able to help/support other women with similar journeys. The GTG's certainly serve a purpose but I can see how a support group could be helpful in a different way!
