Things to do on weekends

I feel like I have fallen into a rut with my family. Every weekend we are either booked solid or have nothing to do. On the weekends that are free we end up sitting around and then when the weekend is over, my kids say "we did nothing all weekend". looking for some fun things to do and places to go(especially during winter) My kids are 9, 10 and 9 (boy, 2 girls).

Things to do on weekends

I dread the day when my kids complain about staying home. I hate going out on weekends! My suggestions would be

Ice skating
Movies
Air trampoline
Dave and busters
See a play at play at one of the local theatres
Check out the library for museum passes like NY Hall of science or LICM

Check out Groupon or Living Social. They have lots of different types of activities that you might necessarily think of to do.

I will say that DH and I are skiers/snowboarders. That's what gets us through these winter months and makes it far more bearable. What about taking your kids to the Poconos or Hunter (you can do day trips with those locations) and teach them to ski or board? They also have snow tubing at some locations which is fun too.

I second these.

Also bowling like Nell said.

I remember when I was younger I enjoyed going to the Vanderbilt Planetarium.

We are looking into going swimming at a local indoor pool for the day too.

When we have an off weekend - I try to set up play dates.

Am I in the minority where i think it's totally ok to have unstructured and unplanned weekends and its ok for kids to be "bored" and have to entertain themselves or just hang out with family/friends?

Life is so hectic as it is why add more stuff!? Our weekdays are non stop and so are many weekends so i cherish the ones where we dont have to do anything

Nope I agree. And most weekends are like this for us.

The only time it starts to get bad is on school breaks like this one.
DD was home for over a week and by the end she was going stir crazy- even with all her new Christmas toys. And with it being so frigid out, we couldn't even do ANYTHING out doors.
By yesterday we had to get the heck out because she was driving us nuts and bowling seemed like a quick, nearby option since there weren't any movies she wanted to see.

But normally, we spend a lot of winter weekends in the house doing basically nothing!
And like you, I cherish those. I love getting up late, sitting in my PJs for a few hours, drinking coffee and just zoning out!

We are so busy every other season but winter, so I made a declaration (lol) that we will do ONE thing per weekend. Movies, mini golf, iPlay, etc, but beyond that, they need to entertain themselves
