Remembered another thing:
The nurses will separate you and DH at some point when you first arrive to ask you both some domestic abuse questions. "do you fear for your life?" "Are you afraid to go home with your husband/wife?" stuff like that. It scared me the first time, I had no idea they had to do that, but looking back how awesome is that for the women looking for their out!
Yes! I remember this. I found it so odd at the time, but you are right- it's a great thing!

This is a great thread. Things nobody tells you...
1) You swell immensely after a C-section. I mean like I couldn't get shoes on I was so swollen.
2) The first time you get up and sit on the toilet after you C-section your insides feel like they are falling out...its gross.
3) The first time you pee after having a catheter it hurts like a ******.
4)When you BF your uterus contracts and causes more stuff to come out. Wear large pads! And it hurts.
5) You will be extremely thirsty when you start BF. DH would be giving me water while the baby nursed. I felt like the desert was in my throat. DRINK as much as you can!
6) I got a cough from the c-section. Apparently its common and its your body trying get rid of the excess fluids but no body told me this so I thought I was sick.
7) You will probably puke in the delivery room. I did on the table right on my nurses arm.
8) There is no slight tugging during a c-section its more like yanking and rolling and pushing and pulling...its pretty awful.

2 - They might have the father or whoever is in the room with you leave while they administer the epi. Oddly I wasn't worried about giving birth...I was most scared of the epi being that I have back problems. Freaked me out and pissed me off that they wouldn't let hubby stay in the room to comfort me. Not all hospitals/doctors do this. Luckily I really liked the nurse that we had and she calmed me down every single step of the way.
I was told by the anesthesiologist that this was because it is a sterile procedure and nobody can be in the room other than the nurse and the person administering it for fear of infection.
And I was told bc the husbands pass out lol

They asked me this to. Unfortunately domestic abuse is prevalent in pregnant woman and for your safety and the safety of your newborn baby they are required to ask.

No one told me that my son would be so swollen.
I expected it in me but I was fine!
He came out all puffy. He had Kylie Jenner lips. I was like OMG is this how he's going to look?!!?! LOL. After a few hours he started to look normal. But his nose, eyes, and lips were super puffy!

I agree with so many that people have already mentioned.
After my vaginal birth, my midwife told me that I should look at myself down there with a mirror to make sure it looked like everything was healing OK.  That was a cruel joke! I am still incredibly haunted by what I saw!!

The smell! My sisters SIL told me, and whoa it doesn't smell like AF. No one told me I could swell afterwards, either. All through my pregnancy with DS, I had perfect feet and skinny ankles. I went home barefoot after his birth! Nothing fit for days!!!

Oh, forget 2 things.
You might WANT an epi but you might not GET an epi. I went in wanting to go natural but things happened and I begged for on. I wasn't far enough dilated but they ordered it. Then BAM! I was at 10 cm and it was too late. Oh well.
And inductions are tough. The contractions come on STRONG!!!
And you can't eat while you're in labor. I don't think they even let me have ice chips. Boo.
Your body DOES change. I was back to my pre preg. weight but my old clothes didn't fit the same. Things moved. That's frustrating. But you get to shop for new stuff.

I have a few things related to baby
1 my dd had these huge "mosquito bite" looking bumps all over her body. They were like the size of a quarter and gone in 1-2 days. Nothing to worry about and normal but freaked me out when I first saw. Were bright red and so big on. Tiny baby.
2. My dd was so hairy! Back hair etc. I am not a hairy person and was mad at DH at first, lol. It all fell out within a few days and did not affect newborn pics 10 days later. She had a full head of dark hair that also fell out by month 2 and is now dark blonde/light brown with thin hair that grows slowly so totally changed!
3. My dd face was swollen and then wrinkled. Her sideburns like reached her chin. Her nose and cheeks were huge. She looked completely different in 2-3 days. So don't worry if they look strange day 1 especially if it was a difficult birth.

Girl babies sometimes get a period! Freaked the hell out of me when I was changing DD's diaper in the hospital and saw a bit of blood. I called in a nurse who said it was completely normal. She had it for about a week.

Yes! Thank goodness they mentioned it at the discharge class or I would have freaked. No one tells you that! My second didn't have it.

It wasn't like a full on period, more like spotting. But yeah, it totally freaked me out.

This just happened to me the other day. DD was not even a week old yet and when I changed her diaper, I noticed a little bit of blood. I panicked like you wouldn't believe! I "opened things up" and looked and saw a tiny bit. She was going for her newborn visit the next day so I didn't call bc it was only one diaper. Her dr said its normal for them to have a bit of bloody discharge.

They definitely will allow you up as soon as your catheter is out and the drugs have worn off. They actually encourage it. I was up within hours and I was instructed to walk to the halls to help with healing.

Someone mentioned the gallbladder...yes! I never knew this and about a month after I gave birth to my DD, I told my primary care doctor I was having stomach pains at night most nights, she deduced that it was my prenatal vitamins, which I thought was strange since I'd been on them for the past 10 months. Then a month later the pain got really bad, and I kept blaming it on stuff I was eating, or thinking it would go away, 4 days later I noticed my eyes were yellow and went to the ER, was admitted for a total of 10 days, and had other complications because I waited so long...If I had known this was a common thing I would have went in way earlier.

Yes my dd also got spotting. It was normal but had no idea, my mom told me it will happen.. make sure to always eat because once you are there you can't eat... so points In the hospital i remember saying my not in pain I am hungry. I had 24 hrs of labor
