These people are such jerks
We put a offer about two-three weeks ago on a house in our prime location but not so great schools but we can deal with it.
The entire house needs work but we can handle it, you can move in and live in it while you do the work which is fine for us. The owner is haggling over $5,000!!! So we said no and walked. Out of the blue they came back to us yesterday and said they would fix a window that was falling out but still no price reduction. I told our agent they inherited the house, currently renting it and it needs work in every room, not so amazing sd and you want to tell me that these people can not go down 5K! They could say the same to us but I have paperwork stating we can only afford X amount - that is it we are tapped out after that.
People really need a freaking reality check!

we walked on a house that they were haggling over 6,000.00. i know we may have been stupid because it woud mean nothing in our payment every month but it wasw the point. the house down the block sold for only 40,000 more and it was twice the size; had extensions already and didnt need all the work this one did. so we walked also. their loss. we signed on another one today. got it 100,000 less also.

Re: These people are such jerks
The previous owners did the same thing to us over $5,000. So we met them in the middle and upped ours $2500 so they sort of one in the end, but either way you look at it they came down almost $50,000 from their original price. So who really won.......we did. If they really want to sell, they will come down that $5k. Meanwhile, just keep looking. There is always another house out there. Happy house hunting.

Re: These people are such jerks
hang in there. keep looking. Difficult to be patient in this process but it really is the best way.
We dealt with extremely difficult sellers and they haggled over every dollar. Our closing process was ridiculously difficult and I almost had to threaten legal action because they were not honoring our contracts and were refusing to actually go to closing.
This could be a blessing in disguise, if they are this much of a pain now, they could continue to be throughout the process. Keep looking and you may find something better with easier to deal with sellers!

People do need a reality check. We looked at a house a few months ago that was priced at 460K with 10K in tax. It needed so much work, I told my DH they were about 100K overpriced IMO. Still on the market BTW

We had a similar experience... the house was WAY overpriced and we still bid it well over what it was really worth. We got to $15k apart and walked away. Before we signed contracts on another, we even have them a heads up (sort of like a right of first refusal) and they said no. 2 weeks later they lowered their price 10k and are having an open house EVERY sunday

I can understand your fustration, but the fact that they inherited it really doesn't matter. What they "paid" for the house really doesn't matter when it comes to what they feel the house is worth.
Same thing goes for the buyer that gets upset over negotiating 5k on a 400k house after they realize the sellers only paid 150k for it back in 1999.
That is assuming they have lots of equity. It's very possible they inherited a house that's close to being upside-down, they are simply renting it to stay afloat.
