Re: Themes for girls' b-day party (dress pictures added, as requested!)

we just did a luau/Hawaiian theme for Diana's 5th birthday a few weeks ago. I ordered invitations on line, from winkflash.com. There is one with flipflop backround in the vacation area. I did a pic of her at the beach, and the invite was adorable. We ordered a lot of stuff from Oriental Trading. we gave everyone lei's, got some aloha signs etc (ours was 2/28, so we had to do inside, so could not do too much). We made Hawaiian chicken, sweet and sour meatballs, etc. I took a pic of her in a grass skirt and bathing suit top and had in put on a carvel cake, it came out adorable.

Beautiful dresses! Here are just a couple ideas:

Dress 1 theme ideas:
It's a fancy, girly dress and deserves fancy, girly backyard party. I probably wouldn't do a theme exactly, rather I would buy decorations that mirror the color of the dress and have everything sparkley and shimmery.

I also like these:

External Image

It's technically a wedding theme, but you can get the invites, cups, tablecloths, thank you notes, party lanterns (just cut the hangy down things off), and napkins as they don't have any wedding related sayings on them and just add in pastel plates, balloons, etc.

Dress 2:

I love the hula girl party idea. My only concern with that dress is that the hula girl details are on the bottom of the dress and may not be seen in pictures. I don't think it really matters and a hula theme is really easy to do and so cool:

Since the dress is a pale green, these paper products might be nice:

or these:

Another luau theme

I love dresses three and four. I think you could still do a luau them, just change the color scheme to make it more Caribbean:

Here is a really cute hula girl set:

Finally, since your DD loves puppies you could just throw out all your ideas and go with a puppy theme:

I'm not craaazy about the hula dress as her birthday dress. I love the first one you posted, and as you know, the blue/turquoise ones from the GAP.

As for themes, the hula theme is CUTE! However, I'm sort of partial to choosing a theme that represents something the child likes (starting at 2, when they have a clue! Chat Icon). I think a dog theme would be ADORABLE, since that is something C has been so into practically her entire 2nd year. Chat Icon

Wait, am I helping? Chat Icon I can't seem to remember the original question ... Chat Icon Chat Icon

YES, you DID help (kind of) Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon See, I'm of the mindset that she's still young enough that I CAN pick the theme still, and want to do it as long as I can Chat Icon

Maybe I could find a girly-puppy theme. But I don't have a puppy dress Chat Icon Chat Icon

I say you should do the party for you since it probably will be the last year you get to (or one of the last years).

Just in case though, here is another puppy dog theme:

I love all the dresses, but for an outdoor party, I think last white dress is perfect!!

It would go great with a beach theme!!!

If you go with this puppy theme, I think a light blue dress with white polka dots would be perfect since it picks up the details in the decorations. This one from target would be perfect:

A cake like the top layer of this one would be perfect:

I LOVE your DD's outfit!! So adorable!! Guess I shouldn't do polka dots again this year b/c her dress for her 1st b-day was polka dots-- or can I?

What about the first dress (green/pink) with the last puppy decorations? Similar colors.

What about the first dress (green/pink) with the last puppy decorations? Similar colors.

Thank you-I had to hunt it down for a few days and was SO relieved when I finally found it because I had to have the perfect outfit even though it was 7 months in advance, yada yada yada. Needless to say I was in Macy's over the weekend and they had a whole rack of them-silly meChat Icon

I think you could do the first dress-it has similar colors and is just gorgeous. The decorations have more blue in them-I think we need to hunt for ones with pink as the more dominant tone-however, if you can't find them I don't think it is a deal breaker for the first dress at all.

I think you could easily do polka dots again, if the color scheme is different-did you do blue last year? Come on, just post a pic of the party last year, let's have it!

Also, if you don't use the first dress for her birthday, will you get to use it for anything? It's such a pretty dress I would hate to see it go unused. If you don't have anything else to use it for and you don't want to use that dress with the puppy dog theme, I would build this party around the the first dress and save the puppy and polka dot theme for next year.

You are IN my brain I think Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I did a very similar theme for DD's FIRST b-day. I'll see if I can find pics. It was pink/green garden party, but the napkins, etc were very similar to what you posted. Great minds Chat Icon

The funny thing is, her dress last year didn't match her theme at all. It was purple & green polka dots. But I loved the dress so I used it.

Chat Icon That's funny about Macy's having it. I would have been on a crazed search too, I'm sure! We got DD's first b-day dress at Macy's! That really is such an adorable outfit for your DD Chat Icon

As I mentioned, I did the pink/green garden/polka dot theme last year, but her dress didn't match. Here's her dress from last year:
External Image

That's the thing, I'm torn about what to do with the first dress...I'd love to use it for her b-day, so I may just do it and figure out a theme to go with it. I could use it for Easter, but I have that other dress (thanks to you Chat Icon Chat Icon ) that I already have for her for Easter.

Too many dresses, too little time Chat Icon
