The One Hour Glucose Test...
...is gross, but over. I had been worried about getting sick from it but I got nothing more than a slight belly ache from the syrupy fruit punch flavored drink. The nurse told me that sometimes, the sugar shows up in the urine and nothing showed up in mine. I'm sure that's not fool proof, but somewhat reassuring. The office only calls back with negative results so I'm going to guess that I should or shouldn't hear something by Friday or next Monday the latest.
On a side note, I learned that again, another doctor in my practice is no longer delivering babies. My original OB was only 50 when he stopped. The liability and malpractice insurance cost was not worth it for him. The second doctor is in his mid 50s same deal. So now only one doc delivers. This practice does affiliate with a practice across the street and they are great doctors I am sure, but I have yet to meet them. The doc I saw today is pretty young and not hanging in the towel yet.
Truth be told, if all three docs did deliver and were either on vacation or with other patients, I couldn't be too picky. Just get Ed-lie out as fast and as safe as possible. That's all I can ask for. I think it is safe to assume that the OBs at LIJ are board certified and licensed MDs.
This just concerns me for the future. I get the feeling that there will be a shortage of OBs in years to come.

Congrats for getting over with that test I'm not looking forward to it... I also am not sure if I'll pass!
I've heard the same thing... that OB's have the highest insurance rates, and they're all quitting
how are we all going to become grandmas

Glad you are done with the GTT. I hope you pass b/c the 3 hour stinks! It's amazing how OBs aren't delivering any longer. Mine threw in the towel last November but, luckily, the practice that took over the OB work is fabulous!

Re: The One Hour Glucose Test...
At my 6-week post-partum visit after I had DD, my OB's office asked if they could submit my name for lobbying efforts against the astronomical malpractice insurance they need. Several doctors in my practice (in their late 30's or early 40's) have stopped delivering as well for the same reason.
