I think Claires psychic forsaw that they would be stranded and didn't care as long as she raised the baby. Anyone have an idea why Claire has to be the one to raise the baby?

That's what I thought too.
My total guess is the baby will end up being "special" like Walt. He clearly has powers and I think that her child will too. Maybe any adopted parent would not understand it and fear it- like Walt's stepdad did.
