The MOMMY Phase
whoa..DS just turned 19mo and literally every second of the day is "mommy, mommy" he will not play in his room unless he takes my hand and brings me in there; or leaves my side during the day. When we are outside he is hanging on me; in the backyard he wont play with all the stuff we bought him unless im right there on top of him.
Im happy he loves me, but it gets very trying during the day.
Any advice on how I can gently reinforce that I am here, but also be independent. I always say "mommy's right here, " but then there are times he just has to cry and get over it b/c I just cannot be with him every second of the day.

Sorry, no advice from me. DD is 1 today and I feel like i am already at that stage. She is glued to my hip so I will watching for advice also.

It gets a little better. DD has always been 100% Mommy. Same exact thing you described, but now she turned 2 on Saturday. Over the last few weeks I've seen her get gradually better at playing by herself. She still LOVES when I play with her, but she will go for longer periods of time.
It's a phase. I know it can be very tiring, but just think in a few years, we will be yearning for it.....................

Going through this now. DS will be fine by himself for a few minutes, but if he can't see me, he panics. I can literally hear him panting until he finds me. If he is in the living room playing with his toys and can see me in the kitchen he is just fine. If I leave him with DH or my parents he will continuously go to the door, in between on and off crying and screaming. It is trying . I am a softee and I just tell myself, he is fine, safe, has everything he needs...He will be ok. (My DS is turning 21 months.)

DD is 3 and FINALLY plays down stairs alone...she still yells for me but will handle that i am busy doing something else.
she is very very clingy to me for obv. reasons, but i am so glad she will finally play alone a bit now!
