The flu shot-
OK Ryan got his flu shot on 11/4- when they gave it to him the Dr told me he would need 2- since this was his 1st time ever getting it....
He was also surprised that the other Dr gave Ryan his MMR before the varicella vaccine- I then explained that I asked for MMR 1st- since we were going out of the country and I didnt know what else was out there (looking back- I realize how stupid that sounds)
Anyways- he says no big deal at all... come back in Dec for the Varicella vaccine- and thats that...
I then make an apt for 12/15 for the varicella vaccine... (totally forgetting that he still needs the 2nd dose of the flu shot)
He's been to the dr several times since the 4th (for illness) and never once was the fact that he still need the 2nd dose mentioned...
Well today- it hit me- "hey- he never got that 2nd dose..."
So I call- tell the receptionist everything- she says it wont matter- to tell the Dr everything on the 15th and he'll get his 2nd dose and the chicken pox vaccine in the same day...
Now my question is this- Can you give the flu shots so far apart? Can you give it the same time as the varicella vaccine?
AND-
When I made the apt in Oct. for 11/4 flu shot- they told me on the phone to come in ASAP because they didnt have much- So in the event they are all out when I get there- is it bad that he only got one round?
*I know I think far too much into things

Re: The flu shot-
Yes, you can receive the second round of the flu vaccine at any point b/c the first stays in your system for quite a while. Even if he didn't receive the second at all....the first would probably build him enough immunity from some strains of the virus. The second shot is essentially a "booster" to up the levels that already exist after the first shot.
As far as getting the other vaccine at the same time, I don't know the answer to that, unfortunately. Sorry.
(btw: I'm also a medic and an RN.....not just a cop) lol I wear many different hats.

Re: The flu shot-
I "think" and I will have to look this up tomorrow, that you can give the flu and the varicella together because the flu is not a live vaccine. As for the time between flu shots it's fine. There is a minimum (4 weeks I think) but anytime after that is OK.

Re: The flu shot-
4 weeks apart is the time you're supposed to wait between the 2 doses of the flu shot. So, if he had the first on 11/4, the second is due 12/4.
Also, don't worry about the office "running out" there is enough flu shot supply this year that there is no risk of shortage. The office may not have had that much, but they could order more.

Re: The flu shot-
Last year Jake only got the 1.2 half of the flu shot and the doctor said it was no big deal if we didn't come back for the 2nd half, so we never did. Jake was fine all winter.
