The Flu
Does anyone have DC with the flu? My daughter was tested for it yesterday and it was negative but I feel like she has it.
If your DC has it what are they like right now and how long did it last?
We are on day 2 of a fever that comes right back when the Motrin wears off with a cough and is totally lethargic. :(
I'm taking her back to the pedi tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyone is in the same boat!

Re: The Flu
If the test was negative for flu it is probably another flu like virus that is not necessarily influenza but can be just as bad.
One time I had 103 fever, I felt like I was dying. I went to the doctor and they were like- this has to be flu. Tested me- negative. Just was a really bad virus that had flu like symptoms.
So it could be a host of any number of viruses - so much is going around right now.
If she has a cough, I 'd get her checked out again though to make sure it's not something bacterial like pneumonia or bronchitis, etc

Re: The Flu
Was she tested for RSV? DS had it a couple of weeks ago with a fever, cough, no appetite and lethargy.

No, she wasn't. I didn't know there was a test for it. I'll ask tomorrow when I take her to the pediatrician. Those are exactly her symptoms. :(

The Flu
I believe the flu test has a pretty high false negative rate

The Flu
That is exactly how my DD was when she tested positive for the flu last week. As soon as Motrin wore off her fever sky rocketed again. Also, you can ask for a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia if you want. I know quite a few kids who have had fevers and slight coughs who were only given a chest X-ray after the parents went to the dr several times and they were diagnosed with pneumonia.

Some viruses can be just as bad as the flu.

Re: The Flu
My DD tested positive for the flu.
She started felling sick Saturday but she threw up once acted completely fine then woke up sunday at 5AM complained her side hurt threw up one more time that was it then fine
she only had a fever sunday night woke up monday with it gave her motrin took her to the dr and by the time the motrin wore off she had no fever and was fine.
We only took her in because if it was the flu I wanted to prevent my son from getting it.
We all went on tamiflu monday.
My DH tested positve for the flu monday too but had no fever. He was going to the DR for a sinus infection (which he did have) and they tested hm while her was there.
Me, DD and DS got the flu shot. DH hasn't been able to cause he has been on and off sick.
