The Evolution of Jeans
I was thinking of how Jeans have been a staple forever - but they keep changing at the same time.
Does anyone else remember their 'jean phases'?
I remember putting my jeans on damp so I could SQUEEZE into them and laying down and doing up the zipper with a hanger.
I remember tapered legs, envelope waist jeans, acid wash, striped jeans, ripped jeans and Baggies.
I remember in 5th grade when you had to get all your friends to sign your jeans - but you reserved the space on your butt for the boy you liked.
And I remember in college when I cut the tops of my jeans off with razor blades to look more like a hippie.
Now my jeans (when I actually wear them) are plain old jeans like you'd find in the Gap or Old Navy or wherever. Vanilla.
I feel old.

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
i agree. I also think that Men's Jeans have totally evolved. I went to Bloomies to get a new pair for DH and couldn't find a pair for less that $150! My DH is not that cool to be bearing $150 jeans!!

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
I remember folding my jeans up on the bottom so they were tapered and then wearing those horrible slouch socks.
I always made sure my jeans weren't too short and now look what they have...capri's...

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
I remember Jordache and Sergio Valente jeans and dying to own a pair (my mother never bought them for me, too expensive she said).
I now buy good old Levi's or Lee's....and ONLY when they're on sale. I couldn't care less...
I'm old, too....

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
I remember doing the folder over and roll with the socks!
Then in the 90s the bell bottoms came back(I remember getting my first pair of "Paris Blues" bell bottoms in 9th grade) and there were also the wide leg.
Now I usually just wear a boot cut.

Yep - I used to have an indentation on my leg at the end of the day.
I'm sure if you X-rayed my calf you could probably see exactly where my fold was.

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
in JHS I had ONE..yes ONE pair of stretch jeans that I wore for 3 years (thank God we had a washer and drier)
i didn't own a pair of Levi's until I got myself a job.
In high school, Guess. Girbaud, and Cross Colors were the rage.
baggie or tight....as long as the butt looked good.

Re: The Evolution of Jeans
The other jeans that were hot in my High School were DeGuy, Big John, Edwins & Girbaud - everyone has matching shirts too - Id Shirts & Ton Sur Ton sweatshirts. In my yearbook all guys in the pics are wearing mullets, plaid shirts, skin tight jeans, EG Smith socks and Timerlands w/ the shoelaces untied.
And Porsche sunglasses...

I remember cutting slits in the bottom of my jeans so they would fit over boots. Then some genius thought of boot cut...10 years later...and made a freakin fortune!!

my girlfriend used to sew inserts in her jeans and someone discovered her and she created her own line of jeans.. and fashion line They were called Auraze.. she made a KILLING but the business partner eventually stole all her money from her. She was a kid, so she pretty much signed over her designs.
They were awesome for ravers b.c they had all these hidden little pockets in the belt loops, or the part of the pocket that folded OVER... Intended for the hidage of the drugage...
not that *I* ever did anything like that
HOLY CRAP... the company is still in business it seems
