The Beach

DH and I are together 15 years and today is the first time I have gotten him to go to Jones Beach. Gave me every excuse in the book not to go.
Surprise surprise, he is actually enjoying himself.

Re: The Beach

Men are funny creatures. They can say they don’t like something, but once you get them to do it, then they are fine.

Have fun!

Hahaha. I’m not the biggest fan of the beach. I don’t think DH and I have ever been to the beach together unless we were on vacation. DD is 2.5 and we’ve never taken her. She tells everyone “daddy is taking me to the beach but not mommy because mommy doesn’t like sand.”

Indeed, daddy is taking her alone.

The beach is just so calming. Even screaming kids are no match for the tranquility of ocean waves. It's such a happy place for me. I personally love 4-6 pm with cocktails.

Re: The Beach

Ha ha we've been to beaches in Florida and the Caribbean, he always says NY beaches don't compare.
He is wondering who he can go with during the week when I am at work.
He never ceases to amaze me.

He's right, NY beaches are just different. I love island beaches but NY beaches are a different breed. It's like cheesecake and italian ices. I love cheesecake but italian ices are fantastic, too. Stupid analogy, i know.

I think I got DH to like north shore beaches the other day.

His whole family always always always goes to Rober Moses. All.The.Time.

Me? I appreciate RM but I grew up going to crab meadow and sunken meadow, too, and it's a different experience. Quiet, soft waves, great for kids to play in, they can catch fish and crabs. Tons of shells. We went with the kids the other day and at first, he scoffed. But when we got there and he actually relaxed, he changed his tune. Different experiences but both are lovely.

Glad you got him to appreciate it!

It has always blown our minds how people who live on an island surrounded by beaches don’t like or go to the beach. You don’t even have to get sandy at all if you walk on the boardwalk or just along the shoreline in the evenings. If you don’t get wet the sand doesn’t stick to you and create that gross feeling.

The sound of the rolling waves, the vast openness of looking into the sea and seeing nothing but space, sky and sea instead of pavement, traffic and 7-11s.......I don’t know how people go without this! Therapeutic. Glad he can enjoy it.

I agree!! We love the beach....only the ocean beach though. Can't stand the gross bay, and the LI sound is rocky and not relaxing to me. We actually just went camping at Hither hills, and listening to the ocean all night was nice!

My husband doesn't like the beach either but its mainly cause he hates sun. He is the guy who will only go in the pool if its mostly cloudy out. So i got him a popup half beach tent to hide in when we go.

Re: The Beach

We enjoy the beach but not the hassle (parking, lugging all the crap from the car, finding a spot on the sand, having to walk a mile to the closest bathroom......) If I had a cabana and all I had to do was show up, I might feel differently.... but we rarely go because as much as we both enjoy it once we’re there, we just don’t enjoy it enough to schlep.
