Other than Visiting Norfolk/VA Beach, have any of you lived there?

Some of you might know my situation. DH got a job back in March and we had to relocate and move out of LI to Albany. We signed a 6 mo lease which will expire in December. We don't like living in Albany and when he got hired we were hoping that his company would place him in Houston. (I am from TX and lived there for years) So now we are 2 mos. away from our lease expiring and DH is now able to request a base change. We are contemplating moving to Virginia Beach/Norfolk with Houston on the back of our minds.

We've visited Norfolk/VA Beach and Loved it! But, visiting and living there is one thing. Does anyone have any feedback about living there? If so, what areas are nice? DH and I are going next week for a couple of days to check it out!

If you didn't like living there, Why?

I have a friend who lives there and I've stayed with her a couple of times. Her section of town is beautiful, but some of the surrounding areas get scary.

we have friends living in Chesapeake, which is right next to VA Beach....they are teachers and LOVE living there. They have said the house buying can be quite competitve, but affordable----they got a townhouse and fixed it up but were outbid numerous times on others!

Let me know if you'd like me to get any info from them.

I have family that lives in VA beach and they love it. When we went to visit i actually concidered moving there.
