Re: What do I do? Help

I would call her up and ask her how she is doing in general with the pregnancy and wait for her to open up about it and lead the convo to the issue if she wants. I would say that im there for her if she needs anything or wants to talk but I wouldnt want to harp on it too much because that will make it seem like you feel its a tragedy. I would want her to know i am excited for the new baby regardless and will love that baby no matter what.

I would treat her like I would any other pregnant woman with the same excitment of a new baby that is extra special.

I hope she will come to find the special gift of her babyChat Icon

Re: What do I do? Help

That's a hard question. I am not sure what I would do. I might just call and say I am thinking about you and am here for you.Chat Icon

Thank you for the supportive answer. The thing is I'm sure she knows I know already since her mom told my mother in law so is that wierd if I call acting like I'm just curious how she is doing? Considering I haven't really spoke to her much since finding out she as pg? She is 16 weeks pg.

What do I do? Help

Yeah I wouldn't call and pretend not to know. Based on how you describe your relationship, I think a "thinking of you" card would be appropriate and show your support.

Re: What do I do? Help

I am so gonna mess up what I'm about to say.. I know it!

Its a baby. If she's keeping it and she wants it and is willing to raise it, its a baby. Just like any other. Decades ago we didn't know ahead of time. Even now children are born seemingly healthy and develop catastrophic illnesses.

Id not pretend anything. How are you, are you ok. Can I help. Just like any other mom.

I can't speak from any real knowledge since only one friend ever had a down syndrome baby but I treated her and her pregnancy like any other. I was happy for her and just like any baby, we hoped he was born with 10 finger and toes. LOL. We showered him with gifts, loved on him and I have to say he was BEAUTIFUL. I just accepted he was going to have down. Big deal. Sure he had some special health concerns but any child can. She was just more prepared for them.

I wish her and her family all the best. What is that saying about God not giving us more than we can handle?

As a mother of a daughter with Down Syndrome THANK YOU! You nailed it!

Call your friend! Be there for her. Support her. She's going to need it. If it weren't for my friends and family, I'd be lost!

My DD is now 3. When she was born, my family was at the hospital, friends came to see her in the NICU (she was born at 33 weeks), we recieved gifts and are raising her just like any other child.

Don't say "I'm sorry". There is NOTHING to be sorry about. She's carrying a BABY. A human being. The "I'm Sorry" stings. Heaven forbid there are health complications, then of course, say "you're sorry and hope it gets better", but, don't say sorry because baby has Down Syndrome.

If your friend needs someone to talk to, PLEASE FM me and I'd be more then happy to give you my email and talk with her.

Just be there for her. That's all you have to do!Chat Icon
