TGIF QOTD!!

SO someone recently told this kind of horrific story about someone they knew where the kid had murdered another kid and the parents covered it up so their kid wouldn't get in trouble. .

so then we started talking about.. would you lie to protect your kid from the police, and if so, under what circumstances. . so would you lie to the police to protect your DH, a parent, a Chat Icon from the police if they did something? what would be your deciding factors?

I don't know that I would lie about murder..........that's pretty insane and extreme. A little white lie, maybe, but I can't see lying to protect anyone (even my child) if they truly did something wrong. I don't know. I guess you can't truly say what you would do in a situation until you're in it though so maybe I will have to change my answer to "maybe". Chat Icon

Re: TGIF QOTD!!

Yeah I agree. I don't think that I could ever lie about something like murder especially bc I would feel responsible if anything else ever happened.. and it's just to big and wrong for lack of a better word. Also, I would have to assume that something was wrong at that point bc unless it was self-defense which you wouldnt have to lie about, then something's not right in the brain.

I don't know if I could lie about smaller things either - though I'm not sure what a "smaller thing" even is?!

I just think protecting your own has to stop somewhere. .

Well first I would let my children know that if they do end up in jail then not to call me bc they would be safer in the slammer than back at my house Chat Icon

Hopefully that would scare them enough so that they wouldnt end up in that situation. But if they did, I guess it really depends on what they do.

Re: TGIF QOTD!!

I could never keep murder a secret..the truth always unfolds...and that is very dangerous for a child who is a murder to be out in the open and not seek the help they need.

Love it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have to agree with Kristen, right now I can say No, I would not cover anything up and let them face the consequences. But, to help send my child to jail and all that that entails, not sure if I could live with that. Great question, but I think I would not know until God forbid this situation arises.

i believe in tough love - and learning from your mistakes - if people would have covered up for all the stupid things ive done - id probably be a very immature and irresponsible person

I have to agree with Kristen on this one. I would like to think I would do the "right" thing by the law...but I don't know how strong the mother child bond is going to be in that situation. I will also say "MAYBE"
