Temping, OPKs, Un-natural to DHs??

So....as I was buying my basal body thermometer- getting myself prepared for coming off BC this month...DH says to me that he wants to do it naturally... and the "old fashion way" and says "Did people during the baby boom take their temperature and use OPKs??"

Any of your DH's find it odd that we are using these things today? Since I am coming off of BC, I want to temp and start charting to see when I O and if in fact I am Oing....and then I want to possibly buy the clear blue easy fertility monitor...but my DH doesnt seem to think this is natural to buy all this stuff...I told him about preseed and he said "You put what in you???" lolChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Temping, OPKs, Un-natural to DHs??

i guess a lot of guys get a little freaked out by all this ttc stuff. when i first told my dh i was using opk's and temping, he thought i was nuts. he said i was "taking things a little too far" and i was acting "obsessive" (DUH!!! of course! i want to be pregnant ASAP!!!Chat Icon )
But then we talked about it more, and he learned a little more about how opk's and temping can help, and i even showed him some things here on the boards!! Chat Icon
he is so comfortable with everything now that he was the one that actually ordered the opk's for me this month and kept reminding me not to forget to order the preseed!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Don't worry; you're dh will get used to it too!!

I only tell DH what he needs to know Chat Icon I currently have a calendar on the fridge that began 1st day of this cycle, it includes BD, EWCM, BM, + OPK, CD, DPO, then symptoms.

One day he says "what is this?" I said "its a calendar, he says I see that, but what does all this mean? Chat Icon I was like its complicated". Then I said go & get in bed & I'll show you what the markings on Monday mean Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Honestly, I feel the same way your DH does. If I knew there were issues for us TTC, or it was going on for several months then I would (and do) use the OPKs. Otherwise, when first starting out, it was very important for me not to turn the whole thing into a science experiment. Trust me when I say it can create a lot of stress.

Even now, a year and a miscarriage later, I do not inform my DH of what is going on. Throw on some lingerie and we're good to go. Chat Icon

ETA...I am a mom already and conceived DC without OPKs, temping, Robitussin, B6 or anything. Ironically, the months I have used them...nada...

DH doesnt know anything about that stuff and i hope to keep it that way. I am just keeping track of my days and plan to continue to do so until I feel that it is taking too long (9+ months maybe?) but even if i take it to the next level - DH will never know what is going on behind the scenes.

As a very pregnant friend said to me once on here "he may be able to figure out whats up, but if you do it right - he wont care!" Chat Icon

ETA: barring any serious fertility issues - i hope that the night we conceive is about lingerie, red wine and love NOT about what cycle day, temperature or a urine test told me to do. Even if that ends up being what is in the background! No one in my family has ever HEARD of OPKs and we have TONS of babies!

Re: Temping, OPKs, Un-natural to DHs??

In the beginning, it was un natural to me as well. I had NO idea of the level of detail and precision people that people put into this process!
In the beginning i read up on the 'basics' of what happens to get pregnant, and DH and i talked about it.
Then after a few months, i figured well i might as well use OPK's to make sure i'm at least O'ing. Those seemed to work for me so we just time our BD'ing around those days. He knows when i'm testing because he has asked, and i don't keep things from him. I don't POAS every month.. i wait until i get AF. The only months i've tested early is when it was DH's bday and i wanted to see if i could surprise him, or when we had a wedding to go to and i wanted to know if i should drink or not.

I don't want to get into basal thermometers, testing my EWCM or anything like that - i feel it sort of takes the fun out of it and would make it even more stressful than it is.

After 9 months of trying, we've gone to see an RE and i'm now on Clomid, so we'll see what these next few months bring us.

To each their own of course.. but when it comes to TTC'ing i feel like you and your partner should be on the same page. I couldn't imagine not sharing with DH things i knew or what i was thinking about the whole thing - he's a part of this too!

My DH actually had the exact same reaction as yours! He is concerned that I am making this whole baby making process too 'clinical' and he is convinced that we will get pregnant quickly. He thinks I will go off the pill, we will dim the lights, and 2 weeks later, BAM! Chat Icon

I hope he's right!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Temping, OPKs, Un-natural to DHs??

I keep my DH out of as much of the technical stuff as possible. He's a dude and I don't think would understand.

I got pg once on the first try and miscarried and after my first month back in business AF has showed her ugly face...so now I'm ready to play hardball and use opk's...I have heard of men getting nervous when they know it's "baby making time" and I want my DH jsut to relax...cause we don't want any malfunctions cause of nerves! lol Chat Icon

Don't worry you aren't alone in your DH not wanting to know about it...
