telling work

I am absolutely freaked out already about telling work that ia m pregnant. Things have been said to me in the past about getting pregnant andhave told some things about work, including my miscarriage last year, some of the issues with IF, adn how my cycles have continued to be irregular. People have asked why i even cared that my cycles were irregular, and without blatantly lying, fudged teh truth.. I am currently completely freaked out and am planning to tell them after my 12 week ob visit. Any advice? Thanks for letting me vent..

Re: telling work

Why are you so worried? Is there a chance that something could happen to your position? I'm confused. I'm sorry.

Either way, tell your job and make sure you're getting the right treatment... you need to worry about you and the baby... not your co-workers.

Good Luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

legally they cant touch me, i just dont want to be mistreated. I think i am more worried about that. Also concerned about what will be said/done if i am out for that long a period of time. I took a bit of grief when i was out for my dads death- that was only 1 1/2 weeks. Maybe it is completely irrational- maybehormonal. I appreciate the reply though.. thank you.

You have so many great things ahead of you... if ANYONE treats you differently - in a negative way - you have legal routes to take... don't sit back and take it.

As for how you are feeling, it's not irrational - it's normal. I was worried too - I'm a teacher and my district isn't too keen on ppl having babies. Go figure!

I hope you are feeling well!! and CONGRATS!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: telling work

I'm probably not the best person to give you advice, as my job was NOT happy when I told them (and I work in a school - go figure!!), but I just wanted to tell you, if you aren't 100% comfortable telling them at 12 weeks, then wait. There's no rule that you MUST tell them at 12 weeks, heck I waited till after I past 20 weeks to say anything!!

Good luck to you and try not to stress it out too much

Re: telling work

I told my boss early, but that is bc I work in such a small office and did not want to risk her finding out from someone else. Everyone was happy for me. I did the same work as usual until I physically could'nt anymore.

As PP stated, there are laws that protect you from being discriminated against, just because you are pregnant. I don't know where you work, but I would get in touch with an advocate who can advise you of your rights.
