I stayed with my friend who lived on the Bodensee (Lake Konstanz), so we would take drives over to Zurich (40 min), mainly for nightlife.
There is good shopping on the Bahnhofstrasse (swiss watches, etc) and there is the Fraumeunster which is a seriously old church/convent (1000+ years)
I think closer to the Rathaus is Cafe odeon where Lenin planned the Russian Revolution.
The lake is beautiful, but I didn't do much there, b/c we were already staying on a lake.
