Switzerland and my tour of the alps UPDATED with a few pics!

was completely fantabulous!

the most expensive country we have ever been in (trumping the English pound, the Japanese Yen, and the Euro) but worth EVERY penny.

the countryside is literally, breath taking (yes, my breath was took for a moment Chat Icon )

though I hate to use the word amazing b/c I feel it is woefully overused, in this case it doesn't do it justice.

the Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau...my friend the Matterhorn.

every lake, every hike, every villa, kirche and ruin.

Seeing the Golden Roof in Innsbruck, Austria and hanging out in the resort town of Seefeld.

sipping white wine whilst watching a fabu Euro Cup game in front of the Duomo in my beloved Milan.

swimming in the COOOOOLLLLLDDDD waters of Lago di Como...in the incredibly blue and surprisingly temperate waters of Lake Geneva, behind one of the most beautiful castles I have ever visited.

the wurst, the cheese, the beer.

my friends parents little cabin in the Zurich highlands that we called home.

the Ferris Wheel ride high above the Lake of Zurich...the pedal boots...the beer.

the strolls, the hikes. those beautiful alps.

we saw a church built into the side of a mountain.

we lived like the other half do in St. Moritz.

we were 10,000 feet in the air, and still had phone service.

we had a coke high above the clouds on the top of the San Bernadino Pass.

and used the bathroom in a strangers home when asking for the public wc.

we spoke 4 different languages, enjoyed 4 different cuisines....in a country smaller than my own state.

we didn't want to come home.

I hope to have pics for you all soon...but if you've never been and ever wanted to...GOOOOO to Switzerland

Re: Switzerland and my tour of the alps

It sounds aboslutely amazing (for lack of a better word Chat Icon )!

I have been to Switzerland (Lucerne) and Innsbruck and I thought they were both beautiful. I have fond memories of white water rafting while in Austria with a hot Europeon guide - ahhhh to be a single 22 year-old again Chat Icon

You must post some pics when you get them!!!!

Re: Switzerland and my tour of the alps UPDATED with a few pics!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went there when I was younger (like 1). My uncle and his family had moved to Geneva for business so we went to visit him. Too bad I was too young to really enjoy and appreciate it.

The Chateau de Chillion really brought back memories. Beautiful pictures!!!!!!!

Gorgeous pics!

We were there this time last year--went from Zurcih, to Luzern, to the Oberland to Zermatt. Absolutely breathtaking!

Looks like you had better weather than we did. My avatar was taken during the 30 mins of the view we had of the Matterhorn for the 24 hours we were in Zermatt!
<---<---<---<---<---<---

A huge storm came in and the fog was so low over the town and it was 38 degrees on July 3rd! Still amazing though.

thaniks ladies...

Shorty and Racheee...I'll answer you two later! Chat Icon

Nan, we were there for 2 weeks.

Cubs, I have NO idea...I didn't watch that show.

Pork, I would say things are about 50% more expensive than they are here in the states, and it's across the board...whether you are in zurich or a little town, a 20 oz Coke will cost you 4 swiss francs (the equivalent of about $4 here in the states)

a $10 salad here would be $15 there.

lunch was about $20 pp, dinner about $40-$50...which isn't terrible, but it's every day.

I have to say breakfast was the craziest...continental bkst at a cafe with meat and cheese was 18.50 sf in Interlaken....crazy for a roll a croissant, cheese ham and a cup of coffee...

I would say just on food and snacks we spent about $150 for the two of us a dayon a regular day and more when we "splurged" at a nice place...not including other purchases and the attractions we paid to see.

a pint of beer was about $8sf, draft..a glass of wine could be anywhere fomr 8-14.

bottled water, also 4 sf ...but thankfully the water is delicious from the tap OR from the mountain stream, so we saved there.

HTH.
