Tell me about your fuel efficient car...

If you have a car that gets over 30MPG HWY what kind is it & what do you like/dislike about it?
Also what features or upgrade stuff did you add & was it worth it?

Right now I'm loving the Hybrid Prius & the Mini Cooper convertible.

I get 40 miles to the gallon highway (actually according to the computer I had gotten 42) in my Mini Cooper. It's a manual transmission, and it's not the "S". I absolutely ADORE my car. I do not have ONE negative thing to say about it. We don’t have children and space is not an issue in it. We have always been able to fit everything in it, and if not we do have my DHs work van (but never had to use it as of yet!).

my car is OLD! it's a '98 with 107K miles, but she's a runner Chat Icon

I love my car, but I am probably getting a new one soon. Sadly I was not impressed with the new GP's when I test drove them a few months ago Chat Icon

That is awesome! I'm a BIG fan of getting your money's worth out of a car. My car is a 2000 Dodge Neon with 148,000 miles, I get 33MPG. The thing is some of the electronics are starting to fail, so I think I'd better pick out something new before I start having problems.

It's an '07. I think they re-did the engine in 07 to be a little more fuel efficient but get a little more power. It's a zippy car! I would probably get better gas mileage if I wasn't driving like a maniac in it Chat Icon

I'm really loving the convertible, but my DH thinks it too small & "unsafe" because I drive 100 miles a day on the hwy. I've got to go drive one.

I know people remark on safety, but the Cooper does really well in safety ratings, better than the other compacts. I don’t know about the convertible specifically, but I don't think a prius would be any safer than a cooper, KWIM? If you really want it maybe just compare the safety ratings between them to show your DH.

Also, I got a red one. I get cut off MUCH LESS than when I had my tan Jeep Liberty. I guess it's the red, people notice it more.

My Toyota Matrix gets 30 mpg. I LOVE the space in that back and that the seats go down. The only neg. is that I think it is a little sluggish when I need to accelerate fast...

Mine's a Hyundai Elantra. Great mileage, but the pick-up on it is kinda poor. Takes a while to really pick up speed.

Re: Tell me about your fuel efficient car...

if you're looking for $/ mile add in the cost of gas and maintenance.

eta: Honda Accord. Hwy mpg approx 34. The hybrids don't get that much more.

Toyota Matrix gets something like 45 mpg!

those calculations were done loosely & just for fun Chat Icon . I'm actually looking for opinions & reviews on all cars that are very good on gas.

Re: Tell me about your fuel efficient car...

I love my Honda Civic. Gets about 32-34 MPG usually. I's a 2002 with about 109,000 miles (Chat Icon too much!)

It's been really good to us though - and we plan on driving it into the ground too so since they say Hondas will go a long time, I expect we'll get our money's worth.

I got the mid-range model - though sometimes I do wish I had a CD player and the sunroof.

DH's coworker has the Prius and from what I understand, he loves it. We've talked about getting one when our older car needs replacing. Just worried it might be a little too small.

My DH and my mother both have Honda Civic Hybrids. They get around 45 mpg. Both of them love their cars and get to go in the HOV lane by themselves!

The regular civic is so good it almost doesn't pay to get the hybrid version. I really like the new civic too, its cute.

30 MPG is "good", not excellent & it is the absolute lowest I'd go. Most cars that claim to get 26 MPG Hwy don't get anywhere near that because people drive so fast. If everyone truly got 30MPG (or more)we wouldn't be paying $3 a gallon for gas & there would be a chance that polar bears will be alive when our great grandkids are.

ditto. great on gas...not so good going up mountains. I drove a jeep with the top down all the time before this, so I had zero blind spots. not sure if its me or the matrix, but I feel like I don't see enough around me in it.
