Tell me about waxing (your face)
My pcos symptoms kicked in high gear when I got off bcp, and unfortunately one of those symptoms is a mustache I can't stand looking in the mirror anymore, so I need to do something.
It's slightly darker than my skin and I dont want to bleach it. Is it true that if I start waxing, it will grow back thicker and faster? Any other advice, words of wisdom?

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
I have been waxing/threading/nairing my upper lip since I was like 15...I dont feel it grows in thicker but if its noticable to you, I am sure it is to others....I would def. get it waxed if I were you. Isnt womanhood lovely?!?!?!!?!?!?

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
first time hurts worse than any other time and it gets easier.
it all depends on how flabby your skin is, and how good the tech is to hold it taught when pulling.
If you can find a threading place, get your lips threaded, same concept as waxing but you don't get hot wax on your face, instead they use a thin thread twist patches of hair in there and pull, still hurts, but at least your skin isn't traumatized.
bring an ice pack, ice before and after, it will help tons
Honestly my hair is so thick and healthy, no amount of waxing could weaken it, instead I did a few laser treatments and that helped to thin it out.

I use a cream hair remover made for the face. I use it for my upper lip and my eyebrows.

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
Usually I have my lip waxed when I'm having my eyebrows threaded, but sometimes I use Nad's stips (you heat them up by rubbing them in your hands) and they're suprisinginly effective.

AHHH the joys of PCOS
I use the nair for facial hair.
I tried waxing but it made me break out so bad. For about a week I had a mustache of pimples instead of hair which looked much worse

Try threading!!
I agree. I can't wax my upper lip area bc I break out in hives and if that weren't enough, I get those little white "pimples" which I believe result from the trauma to the follicle and the oil coming up to the surface.
Threading while painful in that area (at least for me, my eyes water) results in no hives and almost no white pimples, I get maybe 1.
I wax my eyebrows too now. I think threading gives a much cleaner look. Can get closer and target specific hairs unlike waxing.

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
I have been waxing my upper lip every 3/4 weeks for as long as i can remember.
It does not grow back faster or thicker -- at least not for me and doesn't hurt.
I tried threading a few times and found that to be so painful.

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
I use GIGI hair removal strips , LOVE it! I buy it at Sally beauty supply store. I hate going to a salon for this, but everything else I tried made my upper lip break out or didn't really pull all the hair, so then I discovered this and I'm hooked .

I am also a PCOS sufferer. I also had a hair issue, but I had it lasered after my hormone levels were brought under control by my ENDO. But I have a question..you said your PCOS went into high gear after you came off the pill? Are you not on metformin/glucophage for you PCOS?

Maybe speak to your endo about upping your dose now that you're off the pill? There really in my eyes is no reason for hair growth if your hormones are under control, I know everyones different, but I also know the frustration of having PCOS and how the symptoms of itmake you feel as a women! I take 2 750 pills a day. I am not on BCP and I had my hair all lasered a few years ago and haven't had a problem since. It was the best thing i could have ever done!!

Re: Tell me about waxing (your face)
I have been waxing my upper lip since I was a teenager. It absolutely does not cause the hair to grow back faster and thicker - if anything waxing does the opposite and causes it to grow in slightly thinner.
It really doesnt hurt if you do it right. Your waxer should tell you to purse your lips inward, causing your upper lip to be pulled taught. As long as your skin is pulled that way it shouldnt hurt for more than a split second. They usually put a cooling gel on afterwards to ease the sting. You will be a little red above your lip for about 30 minutes to an hour, but thats about it.
