Television in kitchen...pics please!
We have had a small but bulky tv on top of our fridge since we moved in 5 years ago but now that we are re-doing our whole kitchen, was wondering what others have done. Do you have a flip down under the cabinet tv or a small flat LCD on your counter? Please show pics so I can get a better idea of what to do! Thanks!

Easily viewed from the DR and the kitchen when I'm cooking. Swing arms are the bomb.

Just curious about those of you with kitchen TV's and whether you have cable, fios or satelite and how you are or will be dealing with the digital boxes. It's been convenient to have a small TV on our kitchen counter in the corner. There was a direct wall cable hook up there when we moved in. Now that Cablevision is slowly moving to all digital which will require a digital box for ALL TV's and Fios and satelite already require a box for all units, we're faced with eventually having to add a box in the kitchen if we want to keep the TV there. How big are the small (non-interactive) boxes. If you have a wall unit where is your digital box? And what about those under-the-cabinet units - where does the box connect with that?

They've been slowly converting some channels to digital only. We can't get the History Channel and several others from the lower spectrum on any of our units that plug into the walls. A few months ago they told us they were slowly converting by region and by the end of the year you would need a box for every TV (at a cost of close to $10 per box when you add in the box, the fees, the remote, etc.) We have a one box on the main TV but 5 additional TV's between the basement bar, kitchen, DH's office, living room and bedroom. I really don't want to pay an extra $50 a month to have those units hooked up when some are only used once a week, or rarely but it's sure nice to have when we want it.

I knew that part - but I assumed we'd still be able to get channels like CBS, NBC and ABC... I had no idea they were all going to be converted.

I think they are required to make the "over the air" stations available, but even if you have a "cable ready" TV with the built in card reader you still have to rent the card from them on a monthly basis and you'll need to purchase a new TV with the built in card reader if you don't have one. It's cheaper than the box but only by about half. Bottom line was, if you want any of the cable stations you need to ante up more $$$. DH works from home once a week and for about 1 - 2 hours in the AM a few other days. He likes to have the news or financial station on while he's taking care of e-mails, paperwork, etc. But for the time he's in there it's not worth paying a lot extra for that luxury of a few hours a week. Bottom line is, to keep the same stations we watch now, in the same rooms, we'll have to pay a lot more in either boxes or new TV's and renting the cards.
ETA - LI Business News recently published top salaries of LI Execs - the top 4 slots were Cablevision execs - a synopsis from the article on their annual compensation: Cablevision Chief Operating Officer Thomas Rutledge led the pack with $26.1 million, or about $1 for every second of the year, or $13,000 an hour for a 40-hour work week. He was followed by three other Cablevision execs with between $16 million and $17 million. The top 4 made about $75 million collectively - now I know why they need to keep charging us more and more for our cable.

We have a flip down and have cable but no box. Because of that we dont get EVERY channel but I dont care because that TV is really used mainly for network viewing (primarily the news shows in the morning and evening).

Our box is in the cabinet underneath the wires run in the wall behind it. We had the remote box too - but never installed the sensor.

I'm having such a hard time with this...I was just going to get an under cabinet mount and buy the flat tv and attach it but having a hard time finding a small LCD. Then we were looking into the under cabinet tvs that are small and have the built in DVD, etc. but I'm not really crazy about the way they look and I can't seem to find any that get good reviews. We have no other place to mount a tv in the kitchen (on the wall, etc.). My husband said to just forget it but I know in the past it has helped a few times with DD and it's a nice option to have. I don't know what to do but I need to decide soon before the cabinets are installed!

we have a tv out in our sunroom with no cable box. we are with cablevision and we just ran an cable line to it. it works fine- we just don't get all the channels, some I can remember QVC, E!, TLC, MTV, VH1 but we do get HGTV, and bravo and all the basic channels
I refuse to pay for another box on a tv we hardly ever use.

its a PIA but could save you the $50 a month, you can move a box to the tv you want to use. I had to do that in the my old place because we had a box that would stop working occasionally so we would just unplug the working one and connect it to the tv with the broken box.
