teething and sleep and medication ...
So DS screamed a total of 34 seconds. I sat there and said I'll give him 5 minutes and watched the clock. And sleeping like a log. He's been like this a few days. And sleeping just fine so I haven't medicated him at all. In fact I think he's sleeping so well, because he's exhausted from playing the part of the Tasmanian devil when he's awake.
Chewing on everything in site. I caught him gnawing on my leather sofa And the next minute gnawing on his arm. At that point I gave him ibuprofen... and honestly I feel like I'm giving him poison.
My ped said do not medicate during day, only at night, let them run the course of teething. He believes chewing on things helps the teeth break through.
Just someone tell me its okay to give ibuprofen during the day if I don't give it at night ... for days in a row..
And is anyone's baby like this?

Re: teething and sleep and medication ...
I've never mediated during the day. Honestly, I wouldn't give it to him just because he was chewing on things. I only give it when it is obvious that he is in pain and is upset. I've only given it a handful of times before bed or in the middle if the night when he was screaming and I could tell it was teething related.

If you think he is miserable then do it. Would you not take something yourself if you were in pain? I can't stand to see my DS so miserable. Its not fair. They don't understand. My pedi said to give it as needed. I usually give tylenol during the day, but motrin lasts longer and works better IMO...The chewing alone only relieves the pain as long as they are chewing. DS is cutting 2 molars and two top teeth right now. I make sure I have enough tylenol and motrin on hand for days like this.. You aren't poisoning your kid. You are helping to ease their pain..

How do you characterize upset? He's screaming and biting his arm. I taught him the sign for "hurts" or "pain" and I'm not sure he fully understands it. but he signs pain and rubs his mouth when I ask him "whats wrong?" Maybe its all in my head. I just want to help him, hes completely not himself

Sorry, you didn't mention in your OP that he was screaming during the gnawing- I would definitely characterize that as upset and definitely worth medicating! My son has never gotten upset like that during the day, so I haven't needed to. But if he was doing that, I would.

Re: teething and sleep and medication ...
If you child seems that upset I would give something. I also do not believe in using medication much but with the teething I use it when I feel I need to. Teething is supposed to be very very painful and if I really have a pain I take medicane and dont want my child to be in pain...so yes, if you are not using it all the time for every little thing and you have given him some time and he is definatly in pain I would use it! Good luck and try not to feel guilty! You are helping him!

I've never had to give DS anything during the day for teething, but I wouldn't hesitate if he was in obvious pain. I hope he feels better!
