Teen Mom article

Did anyone see this? I know we've debated this before, but I see this as proof that this show does encourage teen pregnancy.

"I think all the girls idolized Jenelle," their friend Kristina Collins told In Touch Chat Icon

omg, who in their right might would idolize her?! She's Trash w/ a capital T.

And I dunno why, but I'm kinda surprised with Megan's (Chelsea's roommate) pregnancy. Not like I know her or anything so I'm not really sure why I'm surprised Chat Icon

eta: Not so surprised with Janelle's friends tho...although 3 is A LOT!

Re: Teen Mom article

Pretty weak article.

I hate the excuse that MTV is causing an increase in teen pregnancy.

What ever happened to personal responsibility?

If anything, using the "MTV makes it popular" excuse does just that - it *excuses* teens from responsibility.

Some (many) parents have such trouble admitting that their child made an error in judgement, and have to find anything to blame it on - except the child themselves.

I also don't think there is such a drastic rise in teen pregnancy as we are led to believe.. the difference is that in today's modern times, we SEE it more out in the open. In my grandmother's day, girls were mysteriously taken out of school and would disappear.. but it still happened. Nowadays, teen moms stay in school.

I also hate how society acts as if teen pregnancy is the worst thing in the world. It's not. With a good support system, school can be completed, the baby can be raised well, and it may DELAY things a bit, but it's not the worst thing.

Teens eventually grow up and will no longer be a teen parent, KWIM? And, what's the alternative? abortion? then that has a whole other group up in arms. Adoption is an option, but the baby should really stay with it's parents if they are capable.

Lastly, I'm sick of all of this being constantly pinned on the teen girls. It takes two to tango, and two to make a baby. Where is all the backlash against the young men for engaging in teen sex? and not wearing a condom? Why must we always fault the girl?

Re: Teen Mom article

First...the article is from the Post. I treat it with as much repsect as I would something from The Enquirer.

Besides that -- the article is not very strong. "Sources said"? C'mon now!

A random article like this comes out and people say "oh this shows how Teen Mom encourages teen pregnancy!" -- with no true facts or data to back it up.

Yet research and numbers have come out to show the opposite, that teen pregnancy rates have gone DOWN since the shows started airing.

Re: Teen Mom article

I understand the article is from the Post, which I agree is trash. And I agree with many of the posts above, but I do see how impressionable teenage girls can think this show "glamorizes" it. Yes it shows how hard it is, but I don't know I can see how it still encourages teenage pregnancy. JMO I personally don't really like the show, but that's neither her nor there, I don't like much on MTV.

Re: Teen Mom article

They are saying this is from In Touch. A lot of stuff in that magazine is fabricated.

Don't believe it.
