Teaching children to swallow pills
Does anyone have a trick to teaching kids to swallow pills? I would love to get my 9 year old on board and even possibly my 5yr old.

Yeah - I wouldn't have a 5 year old swallow pills.
For your 9 year old, my suggestion would be to have them put some water in their mouth and then pop the pill in and swallow. That is actually how I take pills because I gag if the pill melts the slightest bit on my tongue.

Why? My BF's son has been swallowing pills daily since he was 4.
I'm not sure how his mom taught him, but he's 7 now and he's great. Puts it in his mouth, takes a drink and done.

considering I didn't learn until I was 31 and in the hospital after delivering my son and now needed to take multiple hypertensive drugs a day, I'm no help.

What pills are there that a 5 year old can even take?
All the meds I have seen for children that age are liquid.

Teaching children to swallow pills
You need to start with something small. The mini m&ms works well in practicing. You could also put it on applesauce/yogurt/icecream to make it slide down.
