Teachers WWYD??

my due date is dec. 25 and I am/was planning on working until Dec. 23rd (as long as the doctor okay'd it). My principal knows my intentions and also knows that I may have to stop a little earlier. I went to the doctor last night and he told me that he does not that I will last until Christmas and the baby can come as early as in 2 weeks. Should I tell my principal this?? This will be 3 weeks earlier that expected. I might not go that early (I am hoping that I don't)....

Also, we have a field trip into the city on Dec. 8th... would you go on it???

I am not a teacher, but I am due a week before you and have been told I can go early. I would tell work just to give them a heads up so they are prepared that you may go out early. Also, as far as the trip, my OB told me he didn't want me too far from the hospital. for me that means I won't be attending Thanksgiving at my in laws because they are 2 hours away.

I would stick with your DD, your P rincipal knows pregnant people MIGHT go early it is always a possibilty. My doctor said I would likely go early and I went late, so you never know.

I was a NYC teacher when I was PG with DD. I worked as long as I could. My due date was October 9th and I gave birth on October 6th via c-section. I worked until October 4th!

I think it depends on whether or not you have the days saved. It was only my 2nd year teaching at the time and the previous year my MIL passed away --- so I didn't have a lot of days banked as some people have. I knew that I would need whatever days I had and whatever I had coming to me to cover my maternity leave.

One good thing about having the baby in December is that there are a lot of days in Late Dec-Jan and even if February and you don't have to count them for your maternity leave!

As a professional courtesey, I would give my principal the heads up. Obviously this is out of everyones control, but maybe it might help to prepare the sub who will be covering you. In my opinion, I would definitely NOT go on a field trip into the city after hearing what your doctor said. Especially in December, holiday traffic and crowding is more than usual and you don't want to get stuck god forbid.
