How would you describe Balanced Math? I have an interview and this is going to be one of the questions having me describe it but I am a little confused what they mean by this...TIA

Re: Teachers
found this for you.....
Balanced Math (K-5) Question: Where can I get information/resource on teaching strategies using "balanced math"? Are there Internet sites that specifically employ the use of balanced math?
Answer: The mathematics programs endorsed by NSF use the "balanced math" concepts throughout. Some of these include McDougall-Littell's MathThematicsandConnected Math. The two programs mentioned here are middle school level; however, there are also some good elementary programs such as Everyday Math.
Most of these have on-line sites that contain additional activities for teachers.
Everyday Math - http://www.sra-4kids.com/everydaylearning/em/
Everyday Math Lesson Links - http://www.everydaymath.org/trial.htm
MathThematics Book 1 - http://www.classzone.com/maththem/bk1links.html
Everyday Mathematics, for example, does not teach topics or strands in isolation. Concepts are interwoven over time and in a variety of applications. Each lesson incorporates many of the content strands listed below:
Numeration Operations and Computation Data and Chance Geometry Measurement and Reference Frames Patterns, Functions, and Algebra
That makes for a "balanced content" approach.
There is also a good web-site for balanced assessment in mathematics from the Harvard Graduate School of Education:
