Teachers

Should you tell your school nurse immediately after you get a BFP so she notifies you of anything that could put the baby in danger? I haven't even told my family yet, but i'm thinking of telling my nurse at school. TIA

Re: Teachers

I didn't tell my nurse. But I know that if something like Fifth's Disease is in the school, that they are supposed to notify everyone, with a note or something. Even if you are not pregnant, you could still carry it on to someone that is.

It didn't even occur to me. But since I am in a small school, when something's going around, I know I'll find out. My AP would be more likely to inform me than the nurse, who has to service three schools in one building.

Re: Teachers

I work with my sister so I will tell her when I am PG. I also want someone to know because if I have an emergency and need to be taken to a hospital, I DO NOT want to be taken to the closest hospital to where I work. I don't trust it.

HOWEVER, I have to be very particular with who I tell. There is a lot in the way of school politics and chatter. Once administrators know too much information, it could have an impact on classroom placement for next year. So besides my sister, I will try to be as discreet as I can until I can't hide it.

Someone in our building is currently being treated for a Staph infection. The school sent a notice to the parents and notified the rest of the staff that this can be transmittable through humans with a compromised immune system if they have open skin. They down-played it - probably because nobody else contracted anything. This was the same Staph infection that killed my father. I dont know if they were aggressive enough in informing people, but they did what they were required to do. There are a lot of children in our schools who, even though are insured, are not cared for adequately, and could easily contract something contagious. Had I been pregnant, I wouldnt go back into a building until and unless I felt safe.

Re: Teachers

I didn't say anything until I announced at 12 weeks, but our school too is very small (200 kids) so I'd be sure to find out fast if something was going around.

Re: Teachers

I would hughly recommend telling the school nurse. You can ask her to keep it confidential, and she won't tell anyone else.
It's important for her to know in case anything happens to you, or in case anyone brings anything that could be harmful to you into the school.

Re: Teachers

I told my school nurse and only my school nurse. I did it the 1st time because of 5th disease which I find out I'm immune to. the second time I told her because I found out that sometimes at the beginning of pregnancy strange things can happen. (passing out, cramping, chocking, etc) I didn't want something like that to happen and everyone including my students to freak out and no one know that I was pregnant. If anything like tht would have happened they would have gotten the nurse first. She would have already known what was going on. This time around I told her eariler because I had miscarried in July and I was so scared that it would happen again while I was in my classroom.
