Re: Teacher question
I am untenured and pregnant and I am due Sept. 25th. The thing is I teach in Flushing (NYC Schools) so I am not really so concerned about it. I don't plan on going back anyway because the commute is too much as I live in Stony Brook but even if I planned on returning it's not the island schools.......tenured or not she would give me my job back when I returned. If I actually managed to get an elementary teaching position on the island I would be more concerned but for me I'm not sweating it.

Re: Teacher question
If all goes as I would like it to, I will be pg and untenured.
For me, it's a concern--but I figure that having a child is WAY more important than which teaching job I have. That's just me, though. Is it a little stressful? yeah...but I think it's all relative.

Re: Teacher question
I am untenured and pregnant...am I nervous? YES! My union reps told me not to lose sleep over it, its happened before and there hasn't been a problem for the person being granted tenure...For us, it was the right decision no matter what the outcome...

Re: Teacher question
legally, they can't do anything to you because you're pregnant and untenured. if you have proof that they fired you because of your pregnancy, they would be facing a HUGE lawsuit.
from my experience, they won't touch pregnant women with a ten foot pole they know that it can be seen as discrimination so unless you have had horrible observations and write ups in the past, you have nothing to worry about!!

Re: Teacher question
This is my third year. I got my tenure observation already but haven't been approved by the board yet. I was going to wait until after that but I will be 6 months by then. Also I have had some aggressive kids and been put in some situations that I don't want to be put in. So today, I told my principal. My dept chair knew already. There really isn't much they can do to me, unless I screw up royally between now and Sept!

Were you so nervous to go into your principle! Mine is not so nice...Im terrified to talk to her on a regular day. When did you wait to tell your department chair? I will be 6 months by June and I think Im going to wait until the summer to say anything...too late?
