Tantrum spinoff: Ummm bathtime...used to love it..now hates it...discuss!!

John used to LOVE bathtime.. play with his bubble machine...Pop pop pop...

Used to lay on his stomach and then look up at me like he was a swimsuit model on the beach in Brazil...

NOW....SCREAMS BLOODY MURDER..WONT SIT...screams scream screams..

I've tried every toy...tried telling him ahead of time... screams the moment we get into the bathroom

soooo is this normal for his age???

DS was exactly the same way. He loved bathtime, and then like a switch screamed the entire time. I dreaded giving him a bath, and then like a switch again he loves it. Now he screams when its time to come out of the bath.

I dont want to scare you, but for DS he screamed for about 2-3 months. Now he loves it, and would stay in there all day.

DS doesnt hate bathtime, but he's insane in the tub now. he used to read his bath books and play nice with his toys. now he's standing up, throwing water every where, splashing..and it makes me nervous b/c im afraid he's going to hurt himself. he tries to pull the shower nozzle up, he pulls the drain latch up and down.

yesterday he acted like he was scared of the bath..which is new. then he cries when i take him out.

i swear..im going to be gray way before my time..LOL

It's a phase. Mason did this too and sometimes goes back and forth. Those days bathtime goes fast... I hold his hands so he doesn't slip and DH does the quick wash. Sometimes we just say let's skip shampoo'ing the hair for tonight. We def have to bath him everynight... Daycare kids and their germs. LOL!

He's the worst when we're not home. He hates showers and bathing in any other bath then his at home. When we got back from Aruba (which he was a nightmare with every night in that tub) took him some time to like his bath again.
He loves to stand, but since he sits on a rubber mat with Elmo's and fishes we trick him to sit by asking him to point to Elmo, the fish... etc

Totally normal!!!

And they go through it a bunch more times!! Megan started out loving, then hating, then loving, then hating, then loving...now she's 4 and she went back to HATING it again. I dont know what the flip flop is. Every time she hates it, we create a new game, get a new toy, get bath markers, something to make it fun again. It is something they all go through I think!

Travis just went throught this, he now showers at night with DH. Now he just cries when i take him out the shower, bc he wants to stay in.

DS did the same thing recently. it lasted for 2 weeks. He was cutting 4 molars so I figured it was that and now that the teeth are through, he's back to himself. Is John teething?

DS went through it too! I cant remember if it was at 18 months or 2.5 years old but it was one summer. Out of NOWHERE he just wouldnt take a bath. DH and I couldnt physically even force him to get in.

Nothing had happened to provoke it either. It was like a switch went off one day and that was it. We switched to using the stand up shower which I had to physically hold him in for a few times and then he was fine.

A few months later it was back to the bath with no issues.
I mentioned it to the ped who said her own children did the same think when they were little and she told me stories of her and her husband having to physically hold their child in the shower even to just get them clean.

Dont worry, one day the switch will go off again and all will be fine!

PS my DS LOVES the water so there was no lasting issues!
