Talk to me about unemployment...
It seems I will be out of a job as of late next month. My company's only client will not be re-signing so we will be closing. My boss said something about unemployment and I was wondering how it works- I did google it but I found some of it confusing.  I've been here a year and a half.
I am not even sure I will be eligible as I am only part time and don't make very much. I was a teacher for a long time so this is only the second job I've had as an adult and the 'corporate' world is still new to me.

Talk to me about unemployment...
I know in NY the limit is like 26 weeks total, and the cap is around $420 per week or so, depending on taxes. So sorry to hear this

Thanks! $420 is not that far from what I'm taking home  so I would be ok with that. I am hoping to find something else first!

If you were working part time you will most likely not be bring home the 420. 420 is a max.

I was working part time and my company closed and I was able to collect unemployment. It is 26 weeks, the amount you get is 1/2 your average weekly gross pay, with a max of around $420. You can opt to have taxes taken out. You do the application online.
