my mom suggested going to LI paneling and getting a price on their laminent flooring thats not pergo... PLEASE HELP! i have NO CLUE i dont even know where to begin

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
I have pergo throughout my entire first floor and I like it. I would have liked to upgrade to an engineered wood but, engineered scratches and considering I have 3 dogs, I needed something scratch resistant.

I am not a fan of pergo. I got my engineered wood flooring at LI paneling. I say at least go and look cause they have tons of floor to look at in all price ranges.
And we bought a bunch of stuff for our remodel from them so they gave us a good price.

i <3 wood floors, but I know it's pricey, and plan on doing Pergo or some other laminate.
Just make sure it is indeed scratch-resistant....I know I see scratches sometimes in people's homes; not sure if laminate and pergo have an "expiration date" so to speak.
I also hate carpeting,

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
We got laminate flooring, not the pergo brand, but a lot that was on clearance at Lowes. I LOVE it. No complaints here and it was so easy to install, we did it ourselves.

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
We have laminate or pergo...Not sure which. It's in our living room and dining room, and I have a 9 month old. I got an area rug for the living room b/c it is HARD for when he falls, and had to crawl on. The area rug is large and takes up the majority of the room.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to clean. There are always streaks, and you can't use many cleaners on it b/c they are too abrasive.

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
I am not a fan of Pergo. We did put down laminate that we purchased at Lowe's. The brand is called Swiftlock. It was $2.88 sq/ft I think. If has a texture and doesn't really seem like laminate. We have had it for a year with 2 toddlers and no problems. We actually had some come to the house whose family owned a flooring coming and he thought it was real wood. The boards are 3" wide and you lay like traditional wood flooring.
I wanted to add that, the boards come with a foam backing so you do not need to buy additional foam for the floor and I use the swiffer wetjet and no problems with keeping it clean. No streaks or water marks.

This must be what we have in our new house too.
They're ridiculously easy to keep clean - never any spots or streaks. And the previous owners had 5 cats. Between the cats, and them moving out and us moving in, there are no scratches on the floor. I'd say it's a pretty good choice for someone with young kids.
One thing though - they are FREEZING in the winter. The plastic doesn't hold any warmth and you have to walk around in double-socks or heavy-duty slippers.

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
Not a fan at all, we have to redo all of our floors 4 rooms with it b/c they tell you it doesnt scratch or dent etc. well to say the least yes it does scratch and it does dent. things have been dropped on them like a hammer, a clock, toys and they have all left dents/cracks in them. I am so disappointed, we are going with real wood. with the amount of money I paid for carpet time to purchase and install, I should have gotten the real stuff, now that I have to replace so angry! spent over 6k argh!

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
We have Quick Step laminate. I like it a lot.
Considering it for the dining room.
I have engineered wood in my kitchen (was not my choice) and it's scratch city.
The laminate flooring cleans well and has lasted with cats over 7 years. No problems.
It was 1/3 the price of the wood.

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
we did laminate in almost every room before moving in. 6 years later we've replaced almost all of it with hardwood. We planned on having it for only a few years and it worked out great but it was really looking worn toward the end.

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
I have family that have pergo or pergo-like hard floors and like it a lot. one family did it themselves and the other paid to have it installed. I plan to get it in the future when i have a house. they have high traffic and years now with no noticeable scratches or dents. right now in our apartment we have something that i've been calling "laminate" but not sure if it is, its so soft and looks "like wood" and its rolled down like a carpet. it dents easy-i don't recommend it for a house's main area but for a bedroom i'd get it again. :)

Re: talk to me about pergo?!
My mom has some kind of laminate. Not sure if it's pergo or not.
Just an FYI - it shows every stain. I often bring my dog when I go there since she loves him and it shows every paw mark if his paws are even slightly dirty.
It also dents easily. The guy who installed it actually told my mom not to wear high heels around the house.
I would veto it for that reason but I guess if you are very neat and don't wear high heels then you are good to go. It does look nice (although not like real wood even though she got decent quality stuff.)

Try a swifer and a few squirts of windex. I just heard about this and I tried it this weekend. Looks great!!
