Taking away the Bottle

Ok so DD is 13months old and takes 3 6 ounce milk bottle a day. One in the AM one in the afternoon and one at bedtime. She looooves her baba and I have no clue how to wean her off. I give her mlk in a sippy (cold and warm) and she spits it out. I giver her milk in the bottle cold and she will drink it no problem. I am so afraid of bottle rot. (She does not sleep with the bottle or anything.) Any recommedations?

Taking away the Bottle

You'll only get bottle rot if she sits with the bottle in her mouth for a while. If she drinks in 10mins and is done that's really no different than drinking a sippy for 10mins.
I didn't rush the bottle weaning, just offered the sippy every day and by 18mo my DD was done with bottles. I wasn't interested in forcing the issue, it was her source of food and comfort for as long as she knew so going cold turkey seemed mean to me.

At 13 months I wouldn't worry about taking away the bottle yet. They'll do it when they're ready. No kid goes to college drinking a bottle!

My DD just gave up her baba at 16 months with no fight whatsoever. One day I just decided to do sippy transition and she was perfectly okay with it... Any earlier I felt like she wouldn't of been ready. You'll know when she's ready :)

I let her self wean (if they can do it with a boob, why not a bottle?). Bottle rot is if she sleeps with the bottle and falls asleep with any sugary liquid in her mouth. I wouldn't rush her. They are only babies for a short time.

Same - 13 months is SO young! He was completely off bottles by 16 months and it was much easier then.

I think DS was done with the bottle around 17-18 months. I would start by cutting out one of the bottles. No rush though she's only 13 months.

Re: Taking away the Bottle

DC2 is 13 months and there is no way I could get rid of the bottle right now. I haven't even started offering milk in a sippy Chat Icon I'm just not stressing it. In a few more months it will be a different story and we'll deal with it then.

At this age I wouldn't worry too much about it.

IMO, 13 months is too young to take away the bottle. Like others have said, you don't need to worry about bottle rot unless your DD is sleeping with the bottle.

I would wait until she is around 16 months to try.

You should start giving her water in a sippy to get her used to that type of cup.

Thanks everyone. She takes a sippy cup all day with water so no worries about her using a cup. I am not gonna worry about the bottle now. She loves it so much.

I let my dd wean herself... by that i mean she eventually just stopped wanting them 1 by 1... my dd was very very attached to her baba and like you i tried to take it away before she was ready and she would have the biggest meltdowns and cry inconsolably till she got it.
By 14-15 months she cut her afternoon bottle first... she just stopped asking for 1 in the afternoon.
By 16-17 months she stopped asking for 1 in the morning.
And by 2 maybe a few months after i cut the bedtime 1. She got sick and couldnt drink milk so i just cut it at that point.

Taking away the Bottle

My DS had a morning and night bottle until after 2 years. We never took them places so he was starting to get used to not having them but then we went to my parent sin FL and he only had a cup....when we got home that was the end of that.

They will drop it when they are ready. IMO the bottle is not a big deal and I had other battles to fight.

Re: Taking away the Bottle

I went cold turkey with both of my kids. My DD was 17 months, I felt it was time. She hated having only the sippy for the first 2-3 days but then she was fine and never gave me a problem after that.

My DS pretty much gave them up on his own by around 10-11 months. He was never a big bottle baby to begin with so he was done with them early. He LOVED the sippy cups though.

13 months is still young, don't sweat the bottle thing. She will let you know when she's ready.
