Taking DC off of bottle

How old was your DC when you took away the bottle? And how did you do it? Did you just do it cold turkey?

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

Honestly I think daycare helped with this.

All the kids in the toddler room used sippys so he started using a sippy during the day.

Gradually I stopped giving him a bottle at night--just gave him the sippy

Now I am down to one bottle in morning and thats it!!

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

I am just about to start this process.

I am thinking of doing it gradually. DS will take formula from a sippy, but if he is tired or crabby he wants his bottle, so I am planning on changing out his afternoon bottles and then doing his 1st AM bottle and Bedtime bottle last....

DD is 14 months today and we're trying to cut down her bottles but she's been resisting. We're down to a bottle at night and a bottle for her naps but i'm hoping the nap bottles will be cut out in the next week.

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

My Dd was very addicted. But I think day care helped too. All the other kids her age drank sippys and the babies drank the bottles. One day at 22 months she handed me the bottle and said, no more bottle, bottles are for babiesChat Icon

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

I did this at 18-19 months so he was a bit older--Another tip is to keep the baba's OUT of sight--I literally hid them so he wouldnt see it in the afternoon/night

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

I am startnig the process right now...DD is doing great! shes down to her bed time bottle...shes 11 months and it has been an incredibly smooth transition!

now the sucky will be a different story! she still has that for bed time and car rides.

I am currently using the cups like the ones on the left of the picture with the straw attatchment.

Edited because i dont seem to know left from right!

Kaitee was 12 months old and Brooke was 11 months old.

My girls were at the point where they didn't care where the milk came from as long as they we drinking milk so we tossed the bottles before they got attached.

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

Thanks everyone for your responses. DD is going to be 15 months. I have off from work for 2 weeks so I think this will be a good time to try. She really is only attached to her bottle at bedtime. I hope it goes smoothly.

I think i will be more upset then she will be Chat Icon can't believe no more bottles...it's going too fast!!!

DS was completely off at 14 months. We had been phasing it out and by 12 months he was down to only the bedtime bottle. At 14 months no more bottles...and thankfully he took to it well.

I was very late to do it. He just loved those bottles. I just took away the bottle and gave him the cup. At first he refused it, then he must have realized if he wanted milk, he better drink it out of a cup. He was almost 2, though.

Re: Taking DC off of bottle

I am down to just the bedtime bottle with my 14 month old. I got rid of the afternoon ones first, then the AM one, he really did on his own. I bet I could ditch the nighttime one too pretty soon...I thinks its ME holding on to my baby...

Anyway, I so agree the the other poster, keeps bottles OUT OF SIGHT, I only have trouble if DS happens to see one, then that is what he wants!!!
