Swimming "floaties" or "vest" for UNDER 30 pounds?

I bought the puddle jumper, but the minimum weight for that is 30 pounds.

My 10 month old DS is about 24 pounds.

a) would you try it anyway?
b) if not, what do you recommend to put him in when going swimming? Can you post a link to it?

TIA!

I would not use the one you have. It is not appropriate for his size and won't work as it's supposed to. We have this one from (the one on the left).

West Marine

We also have another one in similar style for the pool. Just to forewarn you, if you do get that one, it is very common for the baby not to like it and cry. It's very constricting. DS was miserable the first couple of times but since we are out on our boat constantly it was a non-negotiable. He got used to it after about 3 times.

Dd is 2 and about 21-22 pounds and we also purchased the puddle jumper for swimming. We use it on her now even though the weight limit said 30 pounds. We hold DD anyway - we do not let her go and float in the pool by herself so I do not see the big deal in using it on her now even though she is under the limit

I use the puddle jumper for my DS who is 14m. He is under the weight but honestly he is still too immature to be in a pool and not be held. So no matter what flotation he is wearing I always have a hand on him. We have the puddle jumper and a few sit in floats.

I just googled the puddle jumper because I had no idea what it was. I actually have that too. I didn't know it was called that. My DS is not quite 20 lbs and he has gone in that but with someone there with him and only in the pool. I wouldn't let him use that off of our boat.

I thought you were asking for a serious life vest type of thing not more so for recreational use.

I plan on using the vest. It also offers more freedom of movement for their arms.

No - I would definitely not use the Puddle Jumper for under 30 lbs. It's not safe. My DD is 26 lbs and I'll be waiting for next summer for her to use it. My 4 year old loves hers.

I would not use the Puddle Jumper on a 10 month old regardless of his weight.

I got a float for DD> I figure she'll either be in her baby pool or if she goes in the big pool it will be with us and she'll either be in the float or we'll be holding her. She won't be floating around by herself so I didn't think floaties or a vest was necessary.

This is the float I got

With DS 1, we just held him, and we had a pool floatie in our pool that was a police car, and it had a roof, so he just chilled in there, while we held him, making sure he didn't fall. What exactly are you using it for? You will be holding him, right? So I would just get him a float of some sort. I don't think I would put the puddle jumper on him, or arm floaties, regardless of weight, he may be too little age wise.

John did great with the fabric swim safe arm floaties only.

Exactly- at this age we just used the Spring Float.
It was awesome.

Since a 10 month old won't be attempting to swim alone, I would go with a baby float.
