swimmers ear??
DS is prone to ear infections (he's almost 3) a few days ago he was complaining of an earache, next day still complaining- so i took him to the dr. she said no infection in the drum but it looks like swimmers ear. He is in SOOO much pain, crying non stop. ive been giving him tylenol & motrin together & she gave him a drop that is once every 12 hours & he says the drop hurts. last night i used a drop that we had from when it was an ear infection. how long does this last? when does it get better?

Re: swimmers ear??
My nephew just had that.. dr. gave them drops to put in his ear twice a day.. it's an antibiotic drop. He was in pain for about two-three days after starting the drops.

Re: swimmers ear??
I saw this a few weeks ago at the Dr office. Not sure if it works but it said that if you are prone to swimmers ear.
Make a mixture of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 rubbing alcohol and to place a few drops in each ear after every time you swim.

Re: swimmers ear??
Essentially it is an ear infection. Just not the one that you originally thought...
I cant stress to you ho extrememly painful an outer ear infection, aka swimmers ear, can be. It's an infections of the ear canal itself rather than behind the ear drum like a middle ear infection....
The ear canal can swell which causes pain...
He should have topical antibiotics and possibly even oral...
I had one years ago. Tylenol and Motrin didnt even take the edge off the pain it hurt so bad. A hot water bottle rested on that side will offer a little, minimal, relief. In my case I needed something stronger for the pain. (And Im not a wimp when it comes to pain)

Re: swimmers ear??
DH is taking him back to the Dr at 12:30- i think he needs some kind of oral antibiodic- its getting worse instead of better. Thanks for the tip on the warm compress- ill try that! I feel horrible for him- we are all exhausted.
