Surprise Party Gift

DH & I are going to a 50th surprise party at the Lawrence CC this weekend. He is a friend of DH, not a very close friend but a friend. We see each other on occasion, they were at our wedding, DH & him went to high school and college together.

What should we give? Is an Amex gc for $50 ok? or should I just write a check?
Is $50 too cheap? $75?

Thanks!

married with 3 kids... he needs hard liquor. a nice bottle of scotch looks better than a check for $75, in my opinion. but any gift is fine. Im sure people show up at these things empty handed.

I don't think I would write a check. I personally feel funny giving money to grown-ups after their wedding day...But that's just me.

I agree with the above, I think a nice bottle of scotch or wine (a safe bet if you don't know what he drinks) is a great gift. . . Or, maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant so he and his wife can go out?

Re: Surprise Party Gift

my parents just celebrated their 50th. most presents were checks and cash. frames, ornaments, a bunch of bottles of wine. gift certificates to a lot of restaurants.
